|
|
I was having a problem with the remote control no longer inputing the sending the correct channel number through the ir to the cable box after Comcast in MD upgraded their channel line up guide.
I tried this and it worked on mine for a 5040. There is a version of this for the 4xxx series in that forum. Good luck.
Turn off the cable box.
On the replaytv:
Press the menu button
Select "Setup"
Select "Network and Input settings"
Select the input that for your cable box (probably In 1)
Select "Digital Cable Box"
Select Comcast digital
Select "other"
Select "motorola"
Select "0476" (DO NOT SELECT 4476)
Select "Keep all settings"
Press exit |

Thank You!!!
I didnt know this. I just got home and started to watch some shows I had setup to record and found that it recorded 4 shows all on channel 111!
This 0476 code worked for me. _________________ Replay TV 5080

Your welcome JASTv.
Just to make this a little more informational since I know more people will be having this problem:
Comcast upgraded their program guide for their digital service. This problem is not for those w/o digital service. It used to be red and gold and now is blue. If you take your comcast remote and press info, if it comes up blue and that's new to you then you might have this problem. Another way to tell is if you use your replay remote and type in a channel (say 62) and the cable box goes to a different channel (say 666 or 22) then you might have this problem. It seems that comcast is upgrading all of my county (montgomery) in MD a little at a time. If you don't have this problem yet then it may be coming to you soon.
The upgrade seems to have changed which IR (infrared remote) code is used by the cable box (or at least makes it so that the default one chosen by your replay no longer works correctly). If you remember when you first set up your replay you had to tell it what kind of cable box and provider (comcast, cox, etc.) you were using. The replay then found which ir code to use automatically. This number is now incorrect for you. Untill replay figures this out and gets a patch downloaded to your machine, your machine will no longer work correctly. Doing an automatic setup of your ir will not work until the patch is applied.
The directions in my original post are for a system with comcast, the new blue screen programming guide, a motorola cable box model dct-1000, and a replay series 50xx. However, I belive that the principle of the fix can be applied to problems in different setups. What you are basically doing in this fix is manually changing the ir code. If you have a different box look for another ir code for that box here:
http://www.replaytv.com/support/replaytv/ircodes.asp
If you have a different version of replay look around to find how to manully change the ir code. In the case of the 50xx I get to a screen that allows me to choose motorola or other. If I choose motorola then replay tries an automatic setup that uses the original ir code that is not working. If I choose other then I get to a screen where I can select motorola and then the ir code.
Since you now know how to do the automatic setup of the ir code and a manual setup, you should be albe to play with the configuration with out worrying that you'll mess up your replay.
I hope I made this generic enough to help everyone who might have or will experience this problem. Good luck.
By the way this is a great board. Glad to be here.

I had this problem too in Mont. county MD. I called up replay and they gave the same advice, but suggested two possible codes for the motorola box.
She gave me 0810 and 0476 as the codes, will do this tonight when i get home from work, but thought i'd post it in case anyone else ran into this problem. She also said that just in case neither works, that you might need to flush the code banks of the replay (huh) and when entering the code, press the right direction key 3 times instead of once as the on screen directions indicate)
My first post, glad to see that there's other replayers in Montgomery county, this site looks great, and i have a feeling i'll be staying for a while.
Thanks for the above info |

Thank you so much. The new interface is kinda slick, i guess, but it even screwed up my original remote control.
How'd you learn of the fix?
Also, I have a General Instruments cable box (I live in California) and the same instructions posted above worked like a charm. Now to catch up on the week of shows that were recorded on channels "555" and "444".

Your very welcome. I'm glad this is working for people.

The upgrade happen literally while I stepped out to run an errand so it seemed obvious that this was the cause. I call some friends who have Comcast and Replays and asked them if they had the same problem. They did. I went to the Replay site and found no info. I sent them an email to which I got an auto-response telling me they would get to me in 4 or 5 business days. So, I tried a few things on my own like rebooting the cable box, rebooting the replay, connecting in to replay, going through the set up, etc. Since the Comcast remote was working properly I was convinced it was the Replay IR. I went looking on the web for some info and found this site. I searched specifically for my problem but could not find the solution. I then searched this site for instructions on how to manually change the ir code and found instructions in the 4xxx forum. Using those as instructions as guide, and the ir codes from the replay site, I went about figuring out how to do it for my 50xx machine. It worked so I passed the instructions to my friends with the same problem to test out the solution. It worked for them as well. I came back to this site to give the instructions in case someone else had the same problem. So, a little experimenting and this very useful site. |

I've noticed, since using this code for the last several weeks, that it's not as good as the original. What I mean by that is it's blasting the correct code to the box but seems to cut a number every once in a while.
Before the firmware update to the digital cable boxes, the IR blaster code was 100% accurate (for me anyway). Now it's about 80-85% accurate.
Scifi is channel 127 in my market and I've noticed that it has recorded channel 17 and 27 on SEVERAL occasions instead of Stargate SG1 and Atlantis.
Is there a way to test other codes? Or is there a list of other codes to try? _________________ Replay TV 5080

Try fine tuning the IR code in use to work better. Try increasing the inter-action delay. This command controls the timing between the digits sent.
Fine tuning info: | Quote: | | Go into setup. Select network and input settings. Select Change <whatever your input>. Select satellite box. Select Dish <local city> or National (whichever you have). Select you dish receiver model. When you get to the list of codes, highlight custom and hit the Replay Zones button on your remote. This will bring up the fine tuning settings. Be sure to select Keep all settings when you're done. |
Lifted from a thread at AVS Forum that's referenced at the ReplayTV DIY Upgrade/Repair/Information site: www.replaytvupgrade.com. Although the info is talking about a satellite reciever, it applies the same to cable boxes. _________________ -Gary |

I had the same problem last night. I only just now found Planet Replay. Too bad. After trying to do pretty much what's been suggested here, but not selecting "other", after the ReplayTV took me back to the setup screen, I tried to exit from the function, and got a blank screen. It stayed blank. I finally unplugged the ReplayTV, waited 30 seconds, and plugged it back in. It won't boot up now. I just get the "ReplayTV - Please Wait" box. I called ReplayTV, and after trying everything they suggested, I was told I need to replace the ReplayTV. Any other ideas? _________________ Paul |

Do some reading on how to replace the Hard drive in it.
I had the same dreaded Please Wait screen over a year ago and after I replaced the 80GB generic with a 160GB 7200RPM with 8MB cache drive, I havent had a problem. Let alone the menus and guides are MUCH faster!
Mine was also out of warranty. If it dies again, I'm calling Comcast to get their DVR. _________________ Replay TV 5080
