Kjac..

Can u take a quick look at the DD stuff since you're very familiar with it?

Zap2it changed...

"This was improper since the xtvd element is defined as a complex element in the tmsxtvd.xsd file, and not as a simpleType.
The xtvdDocument element has been removed from the xtvdResponse and replaced with a reference to the tms:xtvd element as:
<element ref='tms:xtvd'/>"

Here is the latest source:

I'm really starting to feel stupid! I just discovered last night that my Replays local and Bell channel guides are all starting to show 'NO INFO AVAILABLE' and then noted my Wirns hasn't updated the info since the 9th. Of course I checked the forums and found the Zap2it changes, and patches, but not really clear how to install the patch!

I'm using Kjac's 1.1.2b. Do I just copy alll the files from the zip into my existing directory, and let them overwrite the old files, and then do a guide update. I don't use any of the other features like channel mapping etc, and I've been happy with this version. Also I see people posting problems with later versions, so see no reason to go to 1.23, or 1.24, or am I missing something

They're just bells n' whistles.. Actually, mine has been running 24x7 since the zap2it update with no probs.

If you're updating the 1.1.2b, just copy over the files. If you upgrade to 1.2.4, delete the directory & run the msi installer.

Thanx for the quick reply! Did the overwrite on 1.12b, and did a manual guide update, and it got through to the last day, and then I got a bunch of exception errors etc and other misc garbage! Tried a second time and got the same results!

Figured I could do a paste from the log, but everything looked normal in there, so I did a replay connection! It went through all the steps normal, but when it got near the end I got a failure to connect message!

Got frustrated with trying the patched 1.12b, so I decided to go for broke and installed 1.2.4. Should have done that sooner. Considerably faster. Now if there was some kind of tutorial on using the 'bells and whistles' I'd be a happy camper!

There's definitely a lot in there.

You now have an NTP "server"/proxy, a local LAN DNS "server"/proxy (no reverse). You can also remap the channels and change callsigns.

Check out the changelog.txt & other txt files in the directory, the WiRNS forum here and at AVSForum http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?threadid=468623

Other than little fixes here & there, I've been going off of requests for features (if feasable), so most of my builds are enhancements.

I'll consider working on a doc at some point.

Happy Holidays!

Is there a problem with WiRNS or Zap2It?

Now I can't get guide updates using WiRNS....the process terminates during the update.

Basically, this happens....

Code:

[2004-12-22 09:21:36] Guide update manually initiated.
[2004-12-22 09:21:37] Purging old guide information
[2004-12-22 09:21:37] Update Time: 2004-12-22 09:21:37
[2004-12-22 09:21:37] Updating guide information in the database.
[2004-12-22 09:21:37] Processing guide information for: Wed Dec 22

And, then the process dies.....

Lawrence:

Did you use the fixed code in your build or was it based on 1.2.3 pre-DataDirect changes? Are you still using your modified build or did you switch over to 1.2.5 (or 1.2.4)?

Was your update manually activated or did you let it run automatically. If it was automatic, I suspect that, sometime late afternoon today, we are going to see others with this issue.

I went to Ryan's build 1.2.4 and did one manual update. No problems were seen. I am waiting until about 8pm tonight to see if it auto-updates as it should.

Wayne

Well, I just tried a manual update with it running as as application...and this happened.

Code:

I noticed that my PRG failed to update automatically this morning....perhaps a problem with Zap2It?

Oh yeah...my changes were to 1.2.4, and I tried upgrading to 1.2.5 and back down again, etc.

Check for duplicate channels. I removed DirecTV 190 and it resolved the issue. I think I'll look at making the sql not so sensitive...

Hmmm, when all else fails....reboot.

And, that seemed to clear things up for now.

I noticed that last night when it did its first automatic update...my Internet connection was down. (PRG also failed, but it saves the last known good XML file and reuses that when datadirect.pl fails...so I don't end up with an empty database).

I guess something weird happens under Windows or .Net though....that rebooting is required to clear it up.

But, now the update worked.....and now to force my ReplayTVs to all update....

Hopefully things will continue to work when I try to fly out for my Xmas holiday early tomorrow morning...so won't be able to check (or want to ).

Interesting that winter has to arrive now....there's a Winter Storm Warning in effect until 5pm Thursday....

Gonna have a mix of freezing rain and snow...that will somehow result in a snow accumulation of 7-13 inches.... fun

Nice.. We're at @6" snow now in Colorado.

Anyway, here's a workaround for dup stations:

In SQLiteExplorer 3.0, delete the index under stations for ID
Looks like: idx_stations_id unique=1

Then paste this line in the SQL box & hit execute:
CREATE INDEX idx_stations_id ON stations(id)

Ryan:

I had the dup station problem some time back (1.1.x). Here's what I found. When I installed a version, in order to avoid duplicates, I had to change the zip code and select "Nothing" as provider for all inputs. Next, change back the zip code and select whatever my inputs were on that RTV. I never had the issue after that.

Perhaps that may give a clue on how to avoid this problem in future builds.

[edit] 4 feet of snow, -29C and about 5" on its way tonight ;-( [/edit]

Well, this is Columbus....they don't know how to handle snow....even though it falls every year...so every year there's at least a couple snow emergencies, because they somehow didn't expect it...again.

Yet, I don't really miss snowfall measured in meters....like when I lived in Canada. Was really bad the new year's eve that it snowed 1.5 meters.

Not so bad on the highway...for the greyhound bus that brought me home. But, having to walking through the white stuff to get to my home from the station was a real pain.

I guess no one had a solution for me

Anyway, I found one and I thought I would share it.

1.1.2b with the DD update didn't work (too many exceptions)
1.2.5 didn't work properly (half the channels had 'No Program Information')
1.2.4 works great for replay program guide serving. ToDo not working giving "WiRNSService.BuildToDo(): Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at WiRNS.WiRNSService.BuildToDo()" when rebuilding.

Request: It would be nice for the View Log to behave similiar to a 'tail -f' so I don't need to do a refresh and a scroll down.

Well, my 1.2.5 updated fine this morning and while I don't have time to check all my ReplayTVs....I did run my forceupdate script and they all updated against WiRNS.

So hopefully things'll keep until I get home from Calgary.

First thing is to get to the airport during a snow emergency....and then see if the weather is messing up my flight times.

Interesting.. What lineups do you use? Did you delete the WiRNS directory when changing versions? This isn't a big deal anymore since the guide update & db actions are a lot quicker.

RE: Request... great idea.. will check it out... only problem with that is that I have to turn off logging for a second to display the log & a lot of functions log.

The lineups:
Rogers Cable Inc. - Richmond Hill
Rogers Cable Inc. - Richmond Hill - Digital

The Replays:
1x 5160 - 200GB upgrade - Cable only
2x 5080 - Digital Cable boxes

The Scenarios:
1. I was using 1.1.2b, on Windows 2000 Server, without any problems for many moons until the DD change.
I applied the kjac update for the DD change Dec 21st. Then I started getting many program exception errors as decribed in my first email and the Replays wouldn't update their guide data.

2. Then I started with a clean install of Windows XP Pro sp1 for 1.2.5. I changed the channel lineups to the new decriptions from 1.2.5 (after switching to a Buffalo one first).I noticed that half the channels had no information. I checked the guide from the browser and that was ok.

3. I started from another clean install of Windows XP Pro sp1 for 1.2.4. Changed the channel line ups for the reset and all channels have guide info. But, the ToDo and ReplayGuide both don't return any information.

Hope this is clear.
