Hi:

My guide data auto updated at 3:15pmEST. This was 24 hours after my manual update of yesterday. This time, the update did 1 day and stopped.

Oddly, I do have guide data for the next 14 days still in the database. This is unlike the last auto update.

Are other users finding this sporadic type of behaviour? I got the following log entry:

[2004-12-02 15:19:54] Guide update timer elapsed. Attempting to commence update.
[2004-12-02 15:19:57] Purging old guide information

Is there, perhaps a relationship or are there remnants with older versions of WiRNS that might be hanging around in Windows Registry and somehow are tied to .NET?

lonetreejim and I seem to have similar issues. I did a clean install of the latest WiRNS build.

I really like the things in this build.

Regards,

Wayne

Since 1.2.0 didn't solve the problem I uninstalled that and reinstalled 1.2.2 then copied the exe and dll files from the 1.2.2 update zip file to the appropriate locations. I then ran it as an application (rather than a service).

Configuration of WiRNS and DataDirect went OK but when I updated the guide it stopped at the 3rd day and went back to idle. A capture of the application's DOS screen is shown below.

I stopped WiRNS (CTRL-C) and uninstalled it again.

Since the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over but expect a different result I immediately reinstalled it, configured WiRNS and DataDirect and updated the guide. This time it loaded all 14 days.

I configured WiRNS for my Replay and reloaded the guide data. It finished all 14 days (though it did generate an error while building the To-Do list but I see that from time to time and rebooting the ReplayTV fixes it).

Perhaps the error message at the bottom of the unfinished download will help the experts figure out what's causing it.

I noticed another oddity.

If I clear channels on the RTV and reload from Wirns, I don't get a lot of my 4DTV mapped channels. But if I set my other, non-4dtv inputs to nothing, clear channels and do this again, with just the 4DTV mapped, I seem to have better luck getting the channels loaded. Makes me wonder if there is some buffer or temp space over runs going on.

ANyway, another piece of the puzzle.

Still Guide only on WIrns server issue at my end. WOnder what that logic path exists anyway, and how I'm going down that path? Todo and the admin functions work as expected.

I am having the same problem as Gary. Is anyone else seeing this?

I've still been using the ReplayTV guide service rather than WiRNS because of those things missing when getting the guide served by WiRNS earlier. I hadn't tried it in a while, so last night I did. None of the movie listings had year, MPAA rating or star info. Did it get broken again at some point?

Hi:

My WiRNS runs 24/7 (WiRNS v1.2.3 build 28121)and the auto update does not fully complete a 14 day cycle before timing out. After the update stops with only a few days of data, I have tried to use the WiRNS service monitor to stop the server and then restart it.

Upon restart, I consistently get an unhandled exception error. I click OK and a .NET error comes up. I close the WiRNS service via the service controller and restart the server. The server appears to start normally. Yet, if I try to IVS via Poopli, there is no connection.

The only way that I can get a proper restart of the WiRNS server/service is to shut the server down and reboot the computer. After the reboot, WiRNS seems to load fine as a service and things are back to normal (until my next auto update).

As Cliff says, another piece of the puzzle.

Do other Poopli/IVS users see similar things with this build/version? If not, how is WiRNS installed and is there a proper 14 day guide data auto update every 24 hours?

WiRNS has some great new features and power (thanks to Ryan and kjac and j.m.). I love it's IVS capability. I think that it is great to run WiRNS as a service. The service controller is a great idea. I really want to stick with this.

Regards,

Wayne

Looks like the 1.2.2 Update is in fact 1.2.3 Build 28121. I noticed the file plugin.hosts in the ZIP, is this the same as the wirns.hosts file that got introduced some time ago? Where can I get more information about this file (I think I saw something in one of the posts either here or on Planet Replay that showed an example that differed a little from the one in this file)?

Ok, looks like the temp file issue is back once again. I'm using the wirns system nonitor to initiate wirns. Looks like something is not cleaning up after itself somewhere.

Hmmm, I didn't know there was a temp issue...but at some point it moved from %TEMP% to C:\WINNT\TEMP

I found thousands of old files under %TEMP%....forgot to count.

And, then more recent ones under C:\WINNT\TEMP....about 14,000 of them....

Hi:

Another small issue. I can only see 5 of my 7 RTV's. All names, ip's, etc. are correct. I've deleted and redone them all on several attempts. DVA sees them all. WiRNS does not.

Regards,

Wayne

Ryan:

I too have the temp files issue.

When I stop the RTV server using the service controller, I get the following Windows, errors and messages:

1.
Unhandled exception : Process id= 0xa94 (2708), Thread id = 0xa98 (2712)

2.
.NET Framework error with the following message:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

I hope this adds another piece to the puzzle.

Folks.

There appears to be something seriously wrong with 1.2.2. I can no longer get updates, I just keep getting exception errors when I try to manually run. Im down to 2 days of guide data remaining.

New update!!!

** YOU WILL HAVE TO DELETE YOUR WIRNS.DB FILE
** YOU WILL HAVE TO DELETE YOUR WIRNS.DB FILE
** YOU WILL HAVE TO DELETE YOUR WIRNS.DB FILE
** YOU WILL HAVE TO DELETE YOUR WIRNS.DB FILE

Installer for Win9x/ME/NT/2K/XP:
http://www.users.qwest.net/~bolenbaughryan2/WiRNS.1.2.3.WinAll.msi

Zip File:
http://www.users.qwest.net/~bolenbaughryan2/WiRNS.1.2.3.zip

IMPORTANT!!! Do NOT Upgrade if you're running a version older than 1.1.2.14760. Too many changes to the database, configuration and application.

**** YOU MUST run "wirns.exe -convert" immediately after install if you are running 1.1.5.20152 or older. Otherwise, you'll need to enter IP & DD info again. Replays and other info will not be affected.

**** If you use the DTV PPV or Sports listings, please visit http://www.geocities.com/paglierani and donate.

** YOU WILL HAVE TO DELETE YOUR WIRNS.DB FILE: export your Replay & Lineup info, delete the database, start wirns and then Import the Replay & Lineup info & follow instructions in install.txt.

1.2.3.30515 12/5/2004
WiRNS
1. Can Edit Replays via the web page.
2. Changed ZipcodeProvider. Lineups no longer have (DirecTV) when selecting; (WiRNS) is now at the end. IF this doesn't bother you, don't install it cuz you'll have to re-add your lineup to the replay.
3. Using ADO.NET Data Provider for SQLite. DB transactions are faster. Should not be any more database errors when updating the guide.

1.2.2.Update
WiRNS
1. Fixed DTV if channel not selected, skip that particular program.
2. Added Program Description to schedule pop-up.
3. Added developer support for mapping hostname/IP to a plugin

1.2.2.23576 - 11/18/2004
WiRNs
1. Moved DirecTV PPV & Sports configuration under "Configuration > PPV"
** NOTE - Provider & TimeZone NOT required for DirecTV PPV & Sports.
2. Optimized DTV PPV & Sports database operations

1.2.2 - 11/17/2004
WiRNS
1. Added j.m.'s DNS Proxy. Can bind to any IP. Can also act as DNS server for a local network only. See file "wirns.hosts"
2. Import/Export Replay & Lineup info under "Configuration > Replays".

1.2.1 - 11/14/2004
WiRNS
1. More robust and accurate headend remapper. Requires current station & channel to be mapped to a station & channel (see remapchan.csv.sample).
2. DirecTV Pay-Per-Sports listings.
3. Fixed DTV PPV & Sports listings. Will only grab if you have a DirecTV lineup selected.

The temp files piling up issue seems to be solved here. Good.

I'm still getting the old Guide only on Wirns server . . . deal. \

Seem to run quicker, for rebuilding the todo etc.

Thanks for the good work!

With the latest version of WIRNS, I'm unable to update the wirns.db file with either SQLite.exe and the SQLiteManager GUI.

I used them to change the OTA lineup from Type Local to Type Cable, so I could speicify the proper IR code the HDTV receiver.

Any idea what's going on?

to view/update the database, you'll need something like sqlite3Explorer.

If you want to change the channel lineups, WiRNS can do that for you. Just take a look at how the remapchan.csv.sample file is setup & change to suit your needs and drop the ".sample".

I already use the remap to change the channel lineup, but I also need to change the "TYPE" field fot the OTA Local Listings lineup.

gotchya... Yes.. then there's sqlite3Explorer or if you google on "sqlite3.exe", that'll work too to put it in a bat file..

WIth the latest Wirns, my replay (just 1 Wayne )
Is reporting trouble trying to update. The wirns log doesn's show any errors, just the normal Hijacking headend requests.

Well, I upgraded to 1.2.3, and now both my Replays, indicate the "Problem getting info from ReplayTV service" error message after the final "combining data" message.

Also, DVArchive is unable to get the data from Wirns (It works just fine with 1.2.2).

The exact DVArchive error is:
Warn: TVGUIDE:: No updated shows were downloaded (updated seemed to go OK, but no show data) -- TV Guide NOT updated

In both cases there are no error message on the Wirns LOG file, just the usual Hijacking Headend stuff.

Had some of the same problems with this latest version, so I tried to go back to 1.2.2, which had been working fine. Now it won't display the Channel Guide, as was the problem in earlier versions or installations.

Cliff:

Remember when this started? I just had a 4080 (which kjac now has) and a lot of questions.

Seems like the only change is the number of units.

BTW.....

I think that the reason why WiRNS doesn't see/update more than 5 units lies with the RTV server.

I remember a post by Lizard_Boy a couple of years ago (which I can't find) which mentioned that there was a cap on the units being recognized by their servers and DVA. Gerry fixed the problem in DVA.

Anyway..... when a fresh version/build of WiRNS is installed, it does see/update all recognized units. After there is an interaction with the RTV server, any units listed (at least, in my experience) are not being updated. They are still seen on the configuration screen and listed in the wirns.replays file.

I just checked and found that an RTV named Expressvu Kids was updated and an Expressvu Kids.guide file was created during the install. It never updated after that. It was the 6th RTV entered during setup. All others are updated properly.

Also, I do not get the unhandled exception errors on a restart of the WiRNS server if I "exit" the service monitor and restart it before I start the WiRNS server.

Regards,

Wayne

I DO remember when we first started working with this project. Seems like a long time ago, and it's good to remember how far we've come. (Canadian Listings, 4DTV support etc. etc.)

Anyway, the not updating issue for me first appeared with the current (1.2.3) release. My naggging issue with the Guide not appearing, has been going on for quite some time, but I'm not sure when. I'd have to do some archive searching. I first thought it was just a transiant glitch and may not have reported it when I first saw it (Shame on me)

It has been, is continueing to be a fun journey!

I just did a db delete and registry cleanout of 1.2.3 . Then, I reinstalled 1.2.3 . I only used the 1.2.3 installer. I hope that I didn't have to use any of the files from the .zip file. Is this correct?

Here is my experience with 1.2.3 after I deleted everything and did a registry sweep and clean. Here are the step by step actions/results which I got:

- re-installed using the installer.
- selected "launch" at the finish prompt. For the first time, I got the popup asking for me to enter my WiRNS, DNS, etc. information. These values have always been in the registry.
- started the server via the service controller and refreshed the configuration screen.
- administration/update guide. The guide updated only 7 days and the server went to idle.
- selected administration/guide once more and the guide updated 14 days this time.
- entered 6 RTV's with their information. This time, I put my Expressvu machines first to see if positioning was the reason why the last one listed didn't show up on other installs.
- entered PPV information. I entered "DISH Network" provider as "Dish Network" (as per Ryan's suggestion). "DIRECT TV" provider "Direct TV".
- disconnected each RTV Ethernet cable in case that there were Poopli or other communications going on which could affect the installation.
- administration/guide update. 14 days of guide data was retreived.
- "DishNetwork" (notice the spelling..... 3 different ways it shows up) PPV was fetched and finished (no parsing message). "DirecTV" (notice the spelling) PPV was fetched, parsed, program table, episode table were finished.
- ToDo processing done
- All 6 RTV's were refreshed and parsed using cached versions (no Ethernet connection)
- Building ToDo List for only 3 RTV's and then the server went to idle
- stopped server via the service controller. Exited service controller and then restarted it.
- restarted WiRNS server. Server plugins, ReplayZone genre data, ChannelGuideProvider.dll, GetShellCommands.dll all loaded properly.
- only the first 5 RTV's (in the order which they where entered during setup) got refreshed using cached version.
- all other plugins loaded properly
- I wanted to remove the 6th RTV using configuration/replays and got a "The page cannot be displayed" screen.
- check the log and saw the following entry:

WiRNSService.OpenDatabase(): Finisar.SQLite.SQLiteException: database is locked
at Finisar.SQLite.sqlite3.Throw()
at Finisar.SQLite.sqlite3.CheckOK()
at Finisar.SQLite.sqlite3.exec(String sql)
at Finisar.SQLite.SQLiteConnection.Open()
at WiRNS.WiRNSService.OpenDatabase(Boolean createDatabase)

What did I do wrong? Should have I overwritten the WiRNS files with the zipped files after using the installer (and before running WiRNS for the first time)?

About the PPV, I checked the Channel Guide and the Direct TV PPV's were there. That is a first for me. The Dish Network PPV's are not. They are selected in my DataDirect. I think it has something to do with the provider name. There seem to be too many spelling differences.

The paperback version of this will be out after the holiday season

I love this stuff and appreciate the work of kjac, Ryan, j.m. et al on my behalf.

Regards,

Wayne

It just dawned on me. Could any of this database stuff be related to resident sqlite issues? I did a clean out of WiRNS in the registry .... but not sqlite. Just a thought.

I just did a db delete and registry cleanout of 1.2.3 . Then, I reinstalled 1.2.3 . I only used the 1.2.3 installer. I hope that I didn't have to use any of the files from the .zip file. Is this correct?Regards,

Wayne,

What did you use to clean the Registery? Just Regedit and a search for Wirns? I'm not at the step that I need to do that, but another day or so, and I'll have to roll back a version or so. I can likely go back to the first remapping build, but would hate to go back any earlier then tat, as I'd loose most of my 4DTV capability.
