I have gone to Schedules Direct and made a 7 day trial account, and added my local cable company and chose all the basic channels.
I have installed WiRNS and pointed it at Schedules Direct with username and password, and the log file shows that it has gotten information from SD.

However, in the WiRNS control panel page under
Tools/Channel Guide or
Tools/Current Channel Guide
I get no shows listed. Am I correct that I should see listings there?

The first partial log file below demonstrates this and more.

A second, possibly related problem. is network setup on my RePlay unit.
The WiRNS program discovered it on my LAN, and I can see the list of recorded programs in the WiRNS control panel.

But when I try to set up network in the RePlayTV, it "tries" for 3 minutes and then tells me that it was unsuccessful.
So I can not yet tell the unit to request a scheule update from my server.

router is 10.0.0.1
server is 10.0.0.107 (static)
replay unit is named Bt and is at 10.0.0.17 (static)

The second partial log file shows some related errors.

Any help figuring out what is wrong would be appreciated!

Mark

A couple things to look at.

In Wirns, Replays, you will need to select the Schedules Direct service and assign to at least one replay.

The Replay network connection (DNS Servers) need to point to the PC where you have Wirns running. Gateway can be to your router, but both DNS IP's need to point to your Wirns box.

After the Repays connect, Change the Zip Code so it reads from the Wirns system the channel lineups available from your Schedules Direct download.

Try that and see if that is a step forward.

Thank you so much... progress has been made!

Changing the zip code was the key that let me then
successfully change the DNS address. I did nothing
different on trying to set it other than having reset
the zip code... and the next try it worked.

And I added the Schedule Direct to the ReplayTV device
setup and I now see programs listed in the WiRNS control
panel.

I can use the remote control in WiRNS to send commands
to my ReplayTV, and as I said before, I can see the list of
programs it I had previously recorded.

HOWEVER...
I still have no channel listings on the ReplayTV.

When I manually "Connect to ReplayTV Service Now"
it shows immediately: combining data
and never progresses further. Then it finally gives:
Connection Failed
Replaytv was unable to connect to the ReplayTV Service
to get local phone numbers and tv channels.
unexpected result code.(844c0002)

The ReplayTV can see the WiRNS machine, as the log file
portion shown below has continuous attempts to get
information. I had previously gotten schedules from
LaHo... but I don't know why it is still trying to contact them.

Again, and help would be greatly appreciated.

Mark

Make sure in your replay network setup that the 2 DNC IP addresses are pointing to your local WIRNS PC. Seeing LaHo suggests to me that your DNS 1 and DNS2 are pointing to LaHo, not your local Wirns PC.

After the zipcode change, do you see the Wirns provided lineups as an option to choose in your Replay input? They will need to be set to get the channel lineups.

Is there some switch on WiRNS that may be accidentally turned
off that prevents it from serving the information? Here is
what is happening.

> Make sure in your replay network setup that the 2 DNC
> IP addresses are pointing to your local WIRNS PC.
> Seeing LaHo suggests to me that your DNS 1 and DNS2
> are pointing to LaHo, not your local Wirns PC.

The two DNS settings are both 10.0.0.107, the address of
my WiRNS computer on my local network. The previously
pointed to LaHo at a much different address.

> After the zipcode change, do you see the Wirns provided

I'm not sure exactly where you want me to look (on the
ReplayTV device or a WiRNS setting), but there is nothing
I can find in the Replay menus that indicates it got
anthing back from WiRNS.

On the ReplayTV device:
- the "MyReplayTV Registration" page still shows
"LaHo RNS" along with a page of information about it.

Okay, just now I went to look at Network Information (on
the ReplayTV). It said something had changed and I'd have
to enter new settings. It tried to get settings automatically
from the network, and found nothing, and put up the blank
settings screen, which I just filled in with:
address: 10.0.0.17
mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 10.0.0.1
DNS 1: 10.0.0.107
DNS 2: 10.0.0.107
and then I pressed continue...
it says "Checking for network information", and has started
a 3 minute countdown clock for verifying network
when the timer got to zero,
it says: "there was a problem connecting with the ReplayTV
service. Make sure...

This same thing has happened every time.

Hmmm something new.. now acting more strange, rebooting
the ReplayTV.

This time when I went to network settings, it looked for
settings automatically and found them. It then asked for
my zip code which I input (97504). It then went very
quickly through stages such as setting the clock and
setting the time zone.
Then it gave this error screen:
Connecting to RplayTV Service
Connection Failed
ReplayTV was unable to connect to the ReplayTV Service
to get local phone numbers and TV channels.
Unexpected result code.(93a60003)

It gives the option to try again, with the same result.

The WiRNS log file shows no entries for the last 10
minutes when I was trying this. (I assume it should
show serving the time and time zone, right.)

Reset the router settings, and they are correct, and
rebooted the router.

Is there any way to test the WiRNS server from a computer?
Perhaps using a telnet client?

Again, any thoughts appreciated.

You can't use the auto configure on the replay. You need to point to the PC running Wirns.
* Get the IP address of where Wirns is running
* Verify that it is up and running on that PC (Green Icon)
* Change your Replay Network and Input, Network
* Pick Manual
* Enter the IP you have chosen in Wirns for that replay.
* Lower on that same screen, Put in the Gateway, the IP of your Router
* In the 2 DNS Server IP fields, Put in the IP address of the Wirns PC.

Let me know. You're getting there.

Hi Cliff,
Thanks for hanging in there with me on this.

I have followed those steps several times, and re-verified
the settings just now.

If you have seen me take other steps, it has just been out of
desperation that I might luck into a fix.

Most recently, I have changed the ReplayTV IP (in the unit and
in WiRNS) to 10.0.0.125 . But it still hangs up in the checking
network step. (But WiRNS can see the ReplayTV and get it's
recorded programs list complete with a change I just made by
deleting a recording.)

And the channel guide in the ReplayTV still shows no programs (there
are channels listed... which appear to be just my favorite dozen channels).

The WiRNS "Current Channel Guide" still shows about 100 channels.
And the log file doesn't show any new entries for the last 2 hours in spite
of all the updates I've attempted. There is a green icon for WiRNS.

Barring other options, my next task will be to attach a network sniffer
and see if the network traffic gives any clues. (Not anxious for that,
it is a lot of work.)

Maybe this will help. Below is a summary of one of my Replay Setup Screens.

IP Address: 192.168.1.120 This is the address of the Replay Box
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 This is the internal address of my Router
DNS Server 1: 192.168.1.100 IP Address of the PC Running Wirns
DNS Server 2: 192.168.1.100 IP Address of the PC Running Wirns

With these settings (Using your IP addresses for the same functions), When Wirns checks the network, the DNS settings will route the query to the Wirns PC that when running is ready to intercept the query and reply as if it was the Old Replay mothership. When you did the LaHo process, you did the same things with the LaHo IP's as the DNS Server IP's.

Here is an idea. Go to your Windows Firewall and disable it for this process. If that clears your roadblock, then you can add an exception for Wirns. As this is your internal network, there is not much risk in doing this.
