I just updated my hosts file so my IVSmagic install should now be sending you info for my three ReplayTVs with a total of a bit over 5000 shows.

Aha, IVSmagic! I'd like to make sure that one works OK. Can you send me the serial number for at least one of those ReplayTVs?

And thanks everyone for the guide info. I added something on http://poopli.volpe.com/ that says how much guide info is being received and processed so far. Unless somebody has a "Mongo", or is using "Poopli Updater", I think we're good for right now - I've got plenty of WiRNS guide info. If you do point (or have already pointed?) a "Poopli Updater" my way, let me know the RTV serial number. That'd be great.

The bare-bones user interface is coming along; So far there's a way to find shows in the DB and request them, and something that allows you to manage incoming & outgoing requests (accept/decline/cancel/complete/please-resend/etc). I just need the user registration, RTV association management, and of course, "I forgot my password" before it'll start to be useful. I think a few more days before it can be tested.

Still nothing from Archie about possibly inheriting the incumbent RTV/ISN/email associations and domain name, but I'll remain hopeful.

There are a lot of fantastic people in the ReplayTV community

I'll track down my serial numbers and PM them to Volpe.

You should be getting shows for 5 more Replays.
4 units and 1 WiRNS (the last one).

I pointed a Poopli Updater your way. If you don't see them. let me know. I set to update every 4 hours, but can change it to more or less if you want.

Thanks for the hard work!

Thanks again everybody for the guide data.

I finally found a few more hours to work on my poopli, and I am almost ready to turn it loose, but I've got a little more testing to do. Once again. I'll say it'll be a couple of days. Stay tuned.

I turned it on at http://poopli.volpe.com

The caveats are on the front page. Maybe a few of you would like to register usernames, claim your replaytv guide data, and test a couple of show request interactions. If you think it's useful, we can tell the people posting in the planet replay forum for shows to try this too.

It will require as much attentiveness as the "forum posting" scheme until I get the notification emails coming out. I'll try to get that in tomorrow.

Still waiting to see if poopli.com will be available. If not, maybe noopli.com....? At least it's the same number of characters.

Do you still want the Poopli Updater data? I can leave it on, but you'll get data from WiRNS and Poopli Updater at the same time. WiRNS will report stored shows and Poopli Updater will report Replays.

With the email notifications working, would it be possible to add an "I can't contact your replay" tick box under the action header on the Manage Show Requests page?

This would be a very handy feature that was never available on the original poopli.

P.S. Thanks for the Resurrection (the show & poopli)

Dan,

I just had the same problem on Win 8 that an antivirus program is hiding this folder\file and marking it as read only. If I navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers no \etc folder shows (even though my settings are to show system hidden folders) however, if I use file open in Notepad++ and paste C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc into the address bar, it does open the folder. For me, it was Spybot Search & Destroy that was hiding the file. It had also marked it as read only.

Make sure you open Notepad as an Administrator.

It is great to see that so many are already registering, up to 14 of us now

I REALLY appreciate what you have done, and look forward to putting it to good use

Along with the tick-box for marking that a show was not sent due to being unable to contact the ReplayTV, it can be helpful to provide a link to the IVSTester at:

I don't think that you need to change the file name (unless Windows 8 is different). If it is working, when you try to navigate to poopli in your browser, it will take you to the new site http://poopli.volpe.com/

It appears that I had the requesting/responding users reversed when the notification email was being constructed and sent, so everything was going to the wrong person.

I think it's right now. Either that, or it was right before and it's backwards now. We'll find out.

Under Win7 and Win8, the folders under \Windows are now "special".

If you open the current hosts. file with Notepad, Notepad won't let you save a file back to the same folder. You'll need to make the changes and then save the file to your My Documents or some other folder.

Then, close Notepad, and using Windows Explorer, you'll have to Copy the modified file to the etc folder. The system will throw up a warning and require you to allow it to be copied with Admin privileges.

Rob,
If you open Notepad as an administrator, you can modify the file and save it (if it isn't marked Read Only - I used Notepad++ which can change the file properties while the file is open). The tricky part for me was that the Open file dialog didn't want to show me the \etc folder. Feeding it the path got around that problem. Putting the path in the address bar also works in Explorer.

I just received a request from "poopli-robot" It is great to see the new system being put to use

It looks like all the features for base functionality is in place and pretty stable, tremendous work in a short amount of time I look forward to receiving many more requests as well as placing many of my own requests for others.

As use builds, there are some additions/tweaks that will help flesh it out a bit more and make it more polished. A few feature requests as the new system matures:

1. When "Managing Requests", add a check box for "Unable to contact ReplayTV", and have it include a link to the IVS Tester at:
http://www.replaytvupgrade.com/ivstest/

2. Have a way to contact others through the system. It can be useful to let someone know that you have the show but it had election results scrolling across the bottom, that you have the show in both letterbox and 16x9A formats and want to know which they would prefer, a transfer seems to have been stuck and you wanted to check in and see what was going on, etc.

3. There are pros and cons to the drop-down search method for shows that is in place vs a text search. It has opened my eyes to series/episodes I had not thought about searching for before, but at times I also have to be more aware of what I am looking for. For example, with a text box search I can put in "Big Bang" and have it give me "The Big Bang Theory" without me having to remember if the official show title contained the article "The" or not. Also sometimes two episodes premier as a pair within a single extended time slot. Being able to do a text search will bring up all results from when it premiered as a pair as well as reruns when it was shown as a single episode. Also, some of us rename shows with slightly varying methods of "S## E##", "s##e##" or "SSEE" for the season/episode number, so the drop-down lists have the same episode from different people jumbled around a bit. With a text search on a database you DEFINITELY need to put in protections though so should someone put in a search for something like "; DROPTABLE" will not cause an unwanted SQL command to be run.

I am impressed with what you put together, and will definitely be putting it to good use

Jim
