I used Wirns for years, but recently ran into problems that were beginning to seem intractable - so I gave DVArchive a try. To my amazement, DVArchive hit the ground running. It recognized both my ReplayTV units without me doing any config at all.

Then comes the sad part of the story. A few days ago my 2Wire AT&T wireless modem started giving me trouble. It turns out it was a bad power supply. But in the process of solving that problem I configured a new 2Wire modem. This seems to be where my DVArchive problems began.

With the old 2Wire modem I had the following:
Bedroom ReplayTV IP: 192.168.1.66
Family Room ReplayTV IP: 192.168.1.67
Host laptop: 192.168.1.64

None were static IP addresses, but they kept these addresses consistently - and all was well.

When I configured the new 2Wire modem I ended up with this:
Bedroom ReplayTV IP: 192.168.1.64
Family Room ReplayTV IP: 192.168.1.65
And I believe I had a conflict with the host laptop:
Host laptop: 192.168.1.64

Thus I couldn't see the bedroom ReplayTV from DVArchive. I tried changing IP addresses on the laptop and on the ReplayTV's. But no luck. Ultimately I figured I'd just go back to the old 2Wire modem and cross my fingers that all would be well again.

I went back to the old 2Wire modem and it appeared the IP addresses reverted to their originals:

Bedroom ReplayTV IP: 192.168.1.66
Family Room ReplayTV IP: 192.168.1.67
Host laptop: 192.168.1.64

It seemed all should therefor be well - but not so much. It seems that somehow I still have a conflict between the laptop and the bedroom ReplayTV (despite them having different IP addresses).

I can change my laptop IP address manually to something other than 192.168.1.64 (e.g. 192.168.1.70) and it then sees both ReplayTV units. But it can no longer get out to the internet (for reasons completely unknown). Even if I set it manually to 192.168.1.64 it cannot see the internet.

I'm sure there must be all sort of magical IP address mapping, memory, and other magic - but I just can't figure it out. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

I may have spoke too soon. After all my wrangling I did a hard-restart on the bedroom ReplayTV and it appears that all is well again.

Mysterious - but good.
