While ShowGuard works great, SportsGuard does not appear to be working for me. I am using WiRNS_Main.dll 3.0 build 4512 revision 28533 with Schedules Direct. I copy/pasted the following into the shellcmds file last summer:
Quote:
regedit setval SysConfig/NetworkUpdateTime Anytime 0
regedit setstr Software/Apps/ReplayChannels EnableShowGuard TRUE
regedit setstr Software/Apps/ReplayChannels EnableSportsGuard TRUE
regedit setstr Software/Apps/ReplayChannels SportsGuardTime 60
regedit setstr Software/Apps/ReplayChannels ShowGuardTime 2

I confirmed on Schedule Direct that the games I try to record are on channels listed under Sports in my lineup.

I'm using JIT to record the games and as with regularly scheduled shows, ShowGuard works with JIT recordings, but not SportsGuard. There are no recordings following the games that would conflict.

I realize that I can schedule each game separately and pad there, but there are still 150 or so games to Go Rays!

Help, please?

I took a stab in the dark. Try updating WiRNS and see if it works any better...

Thanks, Henry!

The conditions are set to test on Thursday's Rays v. Red Sox game.

I wish I could have a better idea of what the RTV looks for, but I added a Zone that I hope will do the trick. Be sure that you update WiRNS and update the guide on WiRNS (which should probably happen automatically between now and tomorrow) and then have the RTV net connect (which I assume you also have happening automatically after the guide update). You need to be sure and have the updated WiRNS and to update the guide data and to feed that to the RTV...

Be sure and let me know if it makes a difference or not!

Just to let you know, I posted another update, so you need to be sure and update again if you already did. I looked at the Zones being fed for sporting events, and I picked what I hope will be a better Zone to activate the SportsGuard. And, if everything has already gone through its normal cycle before you update again, then you'll also need to manually update the guide on WiRNS after the update, and manually net connect the RTV...

To double check that it is functioning properly, on the RTV go to Replay Zones and pick the Sports Zone and select Now Showing and see if you get shows, including the one you are interested in. Hopefully that will activate the SportsGuard. If you want to check the difference, you can try the Sports:Now Showing Zone before you update and net connect...

I just checked the Sports: Now Showing on the RTV before updating and the games in question are already there. This would be working with the WiRNS version from 5/7 for the last netconnect.

I will get the latest update before the next guide update/netconnect and see what happens tonight.

Well, I doubt my update is going to make any difference, then. All I did was to make sure that everything which SchedulesDirect indicated was a sport program, that I made sure it had the Sports:Now Showing Zone. If that Zone was already on those shows, then my update isn't going to help with that...

I just checked a fresh update, and all I see in the guide data is the Sports:Now Showing Zone as part of sports shows. Since I have no way of knowing how SportsGuard actually works, I was assuming that all it could do was to pad shows that had the Sports Zone...

Well, anyway, let us know if it pads tonight show or not...

So, since you said that those shows were already in the Replay Zone, I looked at the EPG data and saw what else was different about sport shows. Looking at the EPG data format, this page shows that the genre information about sports shows is important to SportsGuard. So, I built a new version of WiRNS which should serve the genre information to the RTV...

So, you need to upgrade WiRNS again, I don't think you should have to update the guide but you can if you want to, but you definitely need to re-net connect your RTV unit to have it get the genre information. I haven't tested this at all, so you'll have to let me know if it does the trick or not...

Thanks Henry,

I updated to WiRNS_Main.dll 3.0 build 4520 revision 28855, but that only seemed to update WiRNSMon so I refreshed all.

On the game I recorded (with JIT via WiRNS), SportsGuard did not work but ShowGuard did pad it 2 minutes.

Where does WiRNS put the Schedules Direct data so I can check to see what they're sending?

Here is the log from the last WiRNS start to the net connect for the RTV I recorded on:

That's strange. The WiRNSMon was from yesterday, so I would have thought you would have already gotten that one. This evening you should have gotten a new WiRNS_Main.dll and ChannelGuideProivder.dll...

On the game I recorded (with JIT via WiRNS), SportsGuard did not work but ShowGuard did pad it 2 minutes.

I tested this evening that WiRNS is now serving the sports guide data the same as ReplayTV, so I think it should be working. For the Spurs game (GO Spurs GO!), I see it advertising SportsEvent (which should activate SportsGuard) and Basketball...

Where does WiRNS put the Schedules Direct data so I can check to see what they're sending?

It doesn't put it anywhere. It receives it from Schedules direct in an XML format, and it stores the resultant information in the wirns.db file. You can use any of the SQLite database examination tools to look at that file. The genre information is stored in the programGenre table. But, I used WireShark to "look" at the EPG data served by WiRNS to the RTVs to see that it was sending the correct information...

Thanks Henry.

I will update and try again. I'm waiting for a send to finish so I can reboot that pc to see if it resolves the WiRNSMon issue that others are having that is doc'd in another thread.

It worked, as in that it SportsGuard'd versus ShowGuard'd versus NoGuard'd?

A baseball game recording initiated by JIT was padded by the number of minutes set for SportsGuardTime 60.

The conditions are right for another game to record tonight just to be certain.

Thanks again,
Don

I see why your change didn't work on Thursday; the JIT recording scheduled just before the net connect.

SportsGuard is now working as advertised with WiRNS data.

Thanks for your help, Henry.

Don

P.S. It worked again on tonight's game.

Well, I'm not sure that would make the difference. More of the problem is likely in the RTV's decision making process. It makes decisions a bit before record time, so it may have already made up its mind about how long it was going to record that show. The net connect should have updated the show information, so that should have updated the decision that it could have made, but it may have already made it by then...

Also, the way the Guard's work is that they have to have gap between recordings in the first place. The logic isn't flawless and I suppose they probably didn't test it very much since they never released it. I know that there were several reports of ShowGuard working very poorly with the recent change the networks made to airing shows a minute or so past the hour, causing the next show to start airing a minute or so past the hour. ShowGuard seems to have a problem if one show ends on the hour but the next show starts airing a minute or so later, that the gap is very short. Since that situtation didn't really exist while SonicBlue was still in existance working on code, it probably didn't come up in their testing. Anyway, there could have been several reasons why SportsGuard didn't work right after the update, I think the net connect probably being the least likely reason since that actually updates the show information to be a candidate for SportsGuard. But, timing definitely comes into play, so it might be more likely that the change was made too close to air time, so it wasn't able to make the change in time to affect the recording itself. I know I run into this when I see that a show is running late such that the show I want to record after it is going to start late and end late. I'll go into the recording and add padding to try to make it record longer. But, if I'm too close to the record time, then it will record it for the original record time instead of adding the pad...

I figured that when you said it padded 60 minutes instead of 2 minutes instead of 0 minutes...
