My little contribution to Wirns and LaHo.
Ditch those names and call Wirns 3.0 "microship" and LaHo should be renamed "supplyship".
Or maybe WiRNS 3.0 MR (mothership replacement) |

You need to add the lineup to your Schedules Direct account, and then tell WiRNS to download it. _________________ --

Installed 3.0. Went very well. Updated Wirns, lost the monitor icon in the system tray. Restarted Wirns, still no icon. Had some sockets errors in the debug file. Restarted the computer, everything works great!
Thanks so much to you guys, for your hard work!

Got it fixed. WiRNS forgot the settings. |

|
|
I have a 4080 and 4508, purchased years ago with lifetime sub.
I signed up for the 7-day trial with Schedules Direct (but overlooked the step afterwards where I give a zip code and "Add a lineup"...)
** Before starting, I went to each replay and wrote down all the information under Network & Input Settings **
** Before continuing, I collected all my current network information for the Ethernet card in my XP system. Start->Control Panel->Network Connections->[my LAN card] to get the Status popup window. Then Support tab, Details button. Click anywhere in details text and Ctrl-C to put entire contents in clipboard, paste into Notepad.
Successfully installed, configured and now using WiRNS 3.0 on XP system that also runs my DVArchive. The Installation Setup wiki was invaluable.
------
My hiccups along the way, and
(how fixed)
a. I did have to bind a second IP address. DVArchive happened to be running at the time, and installer reported port 80 in use. Request: I didn't make the mental link between serving on port 80 and DVArchive, even though it was mentioned several times. Perhaps if port 80 is not in use/available, could install look for existence of DVArchive.jar and report if found on disk, in a last attempt to alert the unaware among us of a future conflict?
(wiki - Installation->System Requirements page has a link on how to bind second address)
b. DNS choices provided during install had four 16.x.x.243 addresses that I'd not seen before, and the next two were my cable company DNS's.
(opened a DOS Command Prompt, tried 'ping -a 16.x.x.x' on each IP addr and verified my XP system couldn't communicate with them; then chose the first DNS that matched info I'd pasted from my LAN card)
c. The initial WiRNS attempt to get the program guide failed, and my manual attempt afterward failed too. Debug log mentioned bad response from Schedules Direct.
(logged in to Schedules Direct, Added a Lineup; then WiRNS Admin->Update Guide)
d. when changing my Replay's DNS entries to point to WiRNS, the values didn't get saved by the Replay - I should have gone back into Replay's network settings to confirm the new DNS values.
(Re-entered data second time, was more careful about selecting Continue; verified new DNS values)
e. when it came time to put in a new zipcode on the Replay, I re-entered the zipcode that was already there...after all, it's a "valid zipcode"
(I needed to enter a *different* zipcode than current value - it's the difference that triggers the Replay to make an external request, which goes to WiRNS. I chose zipcode of the next town over)
-----
Thanks to all who produced this - fantastic work under some intense pressures! We all owe a great debt to your efforts -
It's clear to me that $20/yr for Schedules Direct is the most pain-free and straightforward solution to supplying WiRNS. I've spent $20 on so many worse things than this...

how is Wirns going to continue to work when the ReplayTv clocks go off?
Anytime the power blinks off/on we lose the clock and everything doesn't work? |

|
|
Hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have Wirns version 2.14... set up on a WIN 7 Professional system. Has worked great for a month or more. Wanted to cut the cord to the mother ship, and have tried to install Wirns 3.0 to get rid of the nag screens and get ready of 7/31.
After reading all the posts on the string, I shut down Wirns, and tried to install the new 3.0 over the older version. It sets up, but then afterwards says it has the wrong IP address. During the set up process it offers to use my fixed IP of 192.168.0.102, or FE80:c035:cc31:309f:18e9. When I check the port 80, it says that the 192.... address has a conflict with port 80, but the FE80 is OK. The 192... address is what I set the Wirns 2.1... up with and works fine. I have used the same DNS address (primary) as I did in the first install.
I have now tried to install using either address without success. In both cases it does not start after install, and or after rebooting the computer, and will not run successfully when manually started. (wrong IP address in start up screen string, and icon in system tray does not stay green, and windows sends up message saying program not working correctly) In addition, after I set it up, and go to click on the configure Wirns from the program group, it says the Configure Wirns icon is incorrect?
Before I try and do a clean install by removing the old software, and starting new, thought I might check and see if it is something I am missing. I hate to uninstall a and working system without being sure I can get back up and running I have moderate technical skills, and could use a little advise if anyone is inclined.
Thanks,
Tom H |

Well, I guess I would double check that what the installer is telling you isn't correct. So, while WiRNS isn't running (which may be all the time for you now), run "netstat -anb" to see if anyting else is using port 80. If not, try configuring the install for 192.168.0.102 and see what happens. If you can't get that working check in your registry in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WiRNS\configuration for the wirnsip setting and make sure it matches that value. If not, simply edit it there and try starting WiRNS again...

Thank you Henry!!
Just for any others working on setting up 3.0, I will pass on my experience after the previous posts and your suggestions..
I went through the set up process again (3th time), and installed it using the IP address I had originally used for Wirns 2.14..., even though the set up software was saying there was a conflict with Port 80.
I also used the Typical set up, verses the Complete set up I had tried to use both times before. Doing both, system is now up and running. Re-named authcmds.example file as suggested, and nag screens are GONE!
As always, thank you very mcuh for your help.
My next stop is to Wirn's to make a donation!
Long Live REPLAY TV !!

I'm new to WIRNS. Just downloaded 3.0 today. I have red X's on all Replays, but Wirns seems to be operating OK with SD. I've been reading for hours but can't seem to find info on this. Can someone tell me how best to search for this info so I don't have to bother people with newbie questions? _________________ Gary |

| This has been discussed in another thread but here it is. If you see the address in your browser as 127.0.0.0 replace it with the IP address of the PC running WiRNS (the one you are on) and press enter. Now the red X's should be gone. The configuration server has some limitations when you go to it directly. |

Thanks to brobin111 & Space. I did what you said & created a shortcut to my Wirns ip address on the desktop & all is well. I'll just use that for access to Wirns & the icon in the task bar only for indicating if Wirns is on. Things are so easy when someone knows what they're doing!! I was lost. Also thanks to everyone for working so hard & quickly to keep our beloved Replays alive! _________________ Gary |

Installed 3.0 over 2.1 & works fine.
Need to transfer to new computer (same OS-Windows 7-64bit).
After new install do I need anything other than wirns.bd?
Also tried "Administration->Backup Registry" & Database, but where are the backups stored? |

Backups are stored in the WiRNS directory...

I am trying to add another replaytv to my 2 replaytv WIRNS setup. My first 2 are working great but the newly added one is not getting the Schedule Direct lineup. All the channels are blank. This does not happen on my other 2 that were running when I installed Wirns 3. Any suggestions?
Also, when going to Wirns Configuration and then tools, everything I click on in tools results in the same Active Wirns Plugins/Configurations/Configured Replays page. |

Here's a few things to check:
I know you're already familiar with these steps since you have the other two running but it's a worth a review.
1. In Network Settings be sure you've set the IP address to manual and changed the DNS to your WiRNS PC's address. Save the settings.
2. In Network Settings change the ZIP code to something different. You should now be offered a WiRNS channel lineup after selecting a source. Select it and save the settings.
3. Connect using 2-4-3 Zones or the Connect option in Setup.
4. If still No Joy check your router settings to make sure the RTV has been assigned the correct IP address and you've designated it as a static or reserved assignment. Usually a router restart is needed effect the change. |

Space, figured that out. Thanks.
brobin11, I tried all of your suggestions and even rebooted the router. No luck. I can control the replay from the ip address config screen by doing a net connect but for some unknown reason, even though it goes through the getting channel info, I do not have any channel info after the connect. |

OK, assuming the RTV in question has all the correct settings let's have a look at WiRNS. Open WiRNS and go to Configuration:Replays, find your unit under 'Configured Replays' and click EDIT.
Verify all the info making sure that the 'Lineup 1' box has the proper lineup selected.
Beyond that I'll have to defer to someone with more experience to step in as I'm, at best, an "advanced newbie" at this point having just set mine up this week.

One small problem with update to 3.0. I've been a Wirns user for years. When I upgraded to 3.0--no problems at all. Seamless.
But the first time I updated Wirns within 3.0, it blew away my channel remap file. Only took a few minutes to redo it, so no worries. Overall, a great experience. I've contributed before, and once August 1 rolls around with no problems, I will again. |

Did you check that the file was still there after the upgrade? The upgrade should have left the file alone. However, if you changed from DNNA to SD, then you'd probably have a provider name change, which might mean that the existing remap file wouldn't do anything any longer...

Still having a problem getting my newly added replay 5040 to get any of the channel info. When I do a net connect, everything seems to go good but when I check my channels, there is no info just the channel number.
Would uninstalling Wirns 3.0 and starting over help? |
