Is this the right forum to ask for installation assistance for DVArchive?
If not, can you point me to the right place?
If it is the right place, there here are my first and second questions:
1. From reading the FAQs I notice something about port 80. Is this the same issue as with WiRNS where
I can't have two programs trying to use port 80 on the same machine?
2. I get an error message when I try to start DVArchive on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moonguide:~/Downloads/DVArchive/dvarchive-V32$ java -jar DVArchive.jar
Exception in thread "main" java.awt.HeadlessException

at dvarchive.dvArchive.ċ(dvArchive.java:295)
at dvarchive.dvArchive.main(dvArchive.java:980)
r
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm assuming this is telling me that I don't have something configured right, or I'm missing something.
But I don't know enough about java to figure it out.
Here's what I know about my java installation:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moonguide:~/Downloads/DVArchive/dvarchive-V32$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_20"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.8) (6b20-1.9.8-0ubuntu1~10.04.1)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode, sharing)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pointers and clue sticks will be appreciated.
Thanks. _________________ Regards,

Yes, this is a correct forum. You might get better results if you post on the DVArchive.org forum since that is dedicated to DVArchive...
That certainly doesn't look like it has anything to do with a port 80 problem, but, yes, DVArchive has to have exclusive access to port 80 for the configured IP address...
If I had to guess, it looks like DVArchive is unhappy that your setup looks like it has not console, that it is headless. But, that's just from looking at the exception names...

Thanks. I'll give them a try.

Looks like I'll need to fire up another virtual machine, like I did for WiRNS.

While perusing the DVArchive forum I saw references to needing Sun's version of java. That's not what I have. Since I have to have a separate machine anyway, I'll make sure to install Sun java on that one. _________________ Regards,

As I mentioned in my reply to Henry I may have found the problem, i.e. the wrong java. I'll try Sun Java and see if that changes things.
I tried to register on the DVArchive Support Forum. I got an error message that unfortunately I did not write down. Later I tried again and found that the username I tried to use the second time is already in use. I'm guessing that the first time almost succeeded but that an activation e-mail either wasn't sent or hasn't been sent, yet.
I tried to log in and then tried the option to have my password and username sent to me. That failed with the reply, "Sorry, but your password cannot be retrieved because your account is currently inactive. Please contact the forum administrator for more information."
So, I'll give the virtual machine a try with Sun Java and go from there. _________________ Regards,
