For some reason, the DVarchive pick list reverts to choosing ALL channels on my provider (cable: Comcast digital). After this occurs, I just re-pick the channels I want. After some indeterminate time, the pick-list reverts again to all channels.

I am not sure if there is a correlation between this and the fact that I have a laptop on my network, running DVArchive, meaning there are two instances. The laptop seems to retain the channel pick-list okay.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks in advance,
Pete

You might get more (some) responses by posting this on the DVArchive forum...

Henry,

I had forgotten about that forum. I tried but my account is inactive, probably due to lack of use! I could not find any 'administrator' only Gerry as the moderator. I sent him an email just in case he can help.

Do you know how to contact the administrator?

Thanks for the tip,
Pete

Gerry is EVERYTHING!!!

I don't think he removes accounts due to inactivity, so you might want to double check. Actually, I just looked through the user lists (213 pages to get to the pw's!), and I see you listed. Maybe you should just try "forgot password"...

Yep, I get this:

Sorry, but your password cannot be retrieved because your account is currently inactive. Please contact the forum administrator for more information.

So, I just gotta wait and see. It's not a big deal; the channel pick-list is more an annoyance...I can't figure why it would not be retained.

Yeah, you're probably going to have to just wait for Gerry, then...

I don't use DVArchive enough to even know what a pick list is (although, I can certainly imagine), but I can tell you that I believe that DVArchive, being a Java application, simply keeps all of its information in XML files. So, you might want to double check that you aren't sharing some file(s) between the two machines. And, you can try deleting the different DVArchive XML preference files to see if you can't get things cleaned up. You can search around on the DVArchive forum to find out where to find the different preference files...

The pick list in DVArchive is the WiRNS channel remap feature.

This info is stored in:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your_login>\DVA_TV.xml

(at least on Windows XP, the file will reside elsewhere on other OSes)

Each "<CHANNEL>" tag will have an IGNORED="T" attribute if you have it set to ignore that channel (I assume "T" mean "true").

Thank you Space Click.

That led me to this solution:
1. Check all the channels I want to track and save this. Use 2 days for the # of days ahead to keep.
2. Make a 'copy of DTV_TV.xml' file and keep it in the same directory with the newly-created 'DTV_TV.xml' file
3. The next time I get ALL the comcast channels in my TV Listings,
a. quit DVArchive and delete DTV_TV.xml
b. make another copy of the 'copy of' file
c. rename it DTV_TV.xml
d. Restart DVArchive.

Worked once...!!!

So, what is happening to your existing DTV_TV.xml that it is losing the pick list? Did you look at it after it's messed up and/or compare it with the saved copy?

The DTV_TV.xml file also contains TV listings, so doing a side-by-side comparison may be difficult (it is 13 MB on my system). Although if the file is significantly smaller than it should be (perhaps even truncated) then that would be easy to spot.

You could search the file for "IGNORED" to see if all the channels have reverted to a non-ignored state for some reason.

Also, it appears that whenever this file is modified, a file named "DVA_TV.xml~" is created which contains the older version. So you can compare the current version to this one to get just the changes that were made since the last update.

You should check the colored dot on the "Messages" tab periodically to make sure it is not red. If it is red, then click on the tab and see if there are any error messages that could be related to this issue.
