Well... You may need to replace the drive, Usually repeated auto-reboots indicates a hardware issue and the #1 piece of hardware on the suspect list is the only one with moving parts.. The hard drive

#2 is the fan, if it's not turning. it's the problem

Then comes the electronics.. If that turns out to be the issue.. I MIGHT be pursuaded to part with a 5504, but I'd pull the drive first since it's bigger than original (Truly Id do not wish to part with it)

I had a similar problem. After searching the internet, I was pointed to a problem some RTV's have when they are connected to the same network as a computer running Winamp. I uninstalled Winamp from my computer and my phone, and my RTV stopped rebooting. Go figure...

I had installed Winamp on my phone and... bang! My RTV's where rebooting constantly. I guess shoutcast service is making them crazy.

Back again here. Now only ONE of my ReplayTV's is in a boot loop. The other one is working perfectly with WiRNS server in my network.
I did try to unplug the network cable in the back of the affected ReplayTV but the boot loop continues.
I did unplug it, pressed the power button for 10 senconds... no result.

Besides winamp, what else can cause only ONE of the Replay's to reboot?
How can I stop this?

It depends on the boot loop. If it goes entirely through the "Please Wait...", "One moment please...", and Swirl screen before it reboots, then it is a network problem (http://www.replaytvupgrade.com/swirl.htm). However, if it only gets to the "Please Wait..." screen and reboots, then it is a hard drive problem (http://www.replaytvupgrade.com/pleasewait.htm), and you should read this thread. I'm suspecting that in your case it's going to be a hard drive problem...

Thanks, yes, it stops at "Please Wait..." it has the original 160GB Maxtor HDD. I have laying around a 200GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3200822A - hope that will work.

A 7200.7 shouldn't be a problem (http://www.replaytvupgrade.com/drivecompatibility.htm). ReplayTVUpgrade is your friend for all these questions!

Well... Installed the ReplayTV HDD in my PC and tested it with extract_rtv5.
It is OK, based on the command described in your link.
I am actually transferring the shows now, just in case...

I did re-imagine a new HDD. I wasn't sure if I will be able to activate the unit, but it DID. So mothership is still activating new units as "Activated" as today 05.01.2013 (my unit was originally a lifetime unit).

Thank you!

You need to use RTVPatch to test the HDD, as explained in one of my posts somewhere, you should "Backup Source Drive" to test the system partition. That's the one that keeps it from booting. Transferring the shows come from a different partition that doesn't impact booting...

FYI, your unit activates regularly (like daily). If it didn't it would stop working, even though you have a lifetime subscription. I don't know if you read much about the proposed shutdown summer 2011, but it would have basically rendered the units useless without activation...

The other thing you need the "mothership" for is to update the Replay Zones, so that was another aspect of allowing it to net connect...

WiRNS 3 can provide both of these capability now, so the "mothership" shouldn't be an issue...

All four of my Replays with static IP went into reboot cycle while connected to the network as long as my phone with Winamp was on my network. The app did not have to be open to make it happen. This "solution" to my network craziness drove me nuts. I tried everything until reading about Winamp and remembered my little innoccuous install on my phone. cry baby cry baby Uninstalled Winamp and restored sanity.

I am using WiRNS3, it awesome! That's the first time since 2011 that I let my ReplayTV to connect to "their" servers.

OK, then if you had installed the WiRNS 3 Zones package, then you shouldn't have needed to have it connect to "their" servers at all!
