You have to go back to WiRNS 2...
Does that mean there won't be a way to get the DNNA EPG in WiRNS3?

That's correct. The difference between WiRNS 2 and WiRNS 3 is that WiRNS 3 isn't supposed to communicate with DNNA. If you want to communicate with DNNA, then just use WiRNS 2...

Just to be clear, Henry...

Are you saying that the plan going forward is to keep WiRNS 3.0 isolated from DNNA (in spite of the service not (yet) going away), and that if you want to continue to use DNNA data you should go back to WiRNS 2.1?

What about future updates/bug fixes to WiRNS? Will they be made to both 2.1 and 3.0?

Thanks!

I'm saying that WiRNS 3 has no DNNA code in it and will remain that way...

Hard to say for sure and will depend on the situation...

2.1 is running well enough that only severe issues will be fixed.

We need to put our time and energy into WiRNS3 and LaHo.

btw.. LaHo is on a new server and the 70 channel restriction has been lifted Click HERE!

Will 2.1 remove the nag screens?

There isn't any version of WiRNS that removes nag screens. WiRNS 2 has the ability to load custom authorization files on net connect, but it doesn't sign them. If you are using pre-4K units, then you can edit the authcmds file(s) freely. If you are using 4K or 5K units, then you'd need to use one of the softwares posted on AVSForum to sign the authcmds file so it can work properly. You would need to place individual signed files into each of the configured RTV's folder. Or, you can use the auth plugin on AVSForum to do all this for you with WiRNS 2...

Henry

The hash used in the authcmds file is partially based on the serial number of the Replay, so even if you use the universal signature, you still can't use the same authcmds file for all Replays (using WiRNS 2.1 with 4K and 5K units).

WiRNS 3.0 generates the hash/signature for the authcmds file on-the-fly, so on 3.0 you can use the same authcmds file for all Replays.

To avoid using the authcmds file completely on WiRNS 2.1, use the AuthActivate.dll plugin, just put it in the plugins folder (this plugin is not needed with WiRNS 3.0).

Note that the AuthActivate plugin is still in development and has some minor bugs depending on which version you use (there are a few versions that either handle, or proxy, certain Replay functions). Read the text file in the zip for more info.

For the purposes of the mothership, the just posted AuthActivate v1.5.0 works with the latest update of WiRNS 2.1 (as of yesterday or so)

(BTW since Robert has assured us DNNA has no plans to further secure the boxes this should be all we need?)

KenL and Space,

I'm sure *MANY* folks besides me have been following and are interested in duplicating what you and Space have been creating / assembling / discussing both here and in AVS Forum: Encryption and El Gamal Signature regarding WiRNS 2.x, Authcmds, various scripts and DLLs, etc... Please consider creating a 'Cliff Notes' version of your *FINAL* setup so that we all don't have to go step-by-step through both entire threads and can avoid any 'Trial-and-Error' mistakes.

Thanks MUCH in advance!

Has anybody posted instructions anywhere on what is required to revert back to the 2.1 version?

Space will have to sign off on this, but I suspect it is as simple as doing a clean* full install of the latest WiRNS 2.1 (update it) and drop in AuthActivate v1.5.0. Make sure you don't use Authcmds. That should be about it at this point. Then configure how you wish.

*including deleting the Windows WiRNS registry key.

That sounds about right to me. If you use AuthActivate then authcmds will not be used, but it is still a good idea to delete it.

I haven't downgraded from 3.0 to 2.1, so I don't know for sure, but I think you can keep the registry keys and WiRNS 2.1 will just use the same settings. Also, I think you can also keep the same *.db files so that you don't have to redo some stuff like JIT or lose DNRA, etc. But I'd like to get confirmation from the WiRNS devs. on this.

I've downgraded several installations by simply unistalling just WiRNS 3, removing files.txt all the left over .pdb files and such, installing WiRNS 2, performing an update, and letting it go through the setup configuration. Works flawlessly every time...

There isn't any version of WiRNS that removes nag screens.

WiRNS2 with the AuthActivate plugin will remove the nag screens. Doesn't WiRNS3 do the same when the AuthCtl plugin is enabled via the shipped "authcmds" file?

Maybe that means that WiRNS doesn't remove nag screens, but allows you to send the command to do so.

You were, but the thread took a left turn on the idea of downgrading in order to be able to use DNNA Replay Zones, so I broke it into a separate thread at the point where it didn't seem to have anything to do with Replay Zones any longer and became more about downgrading from WiRNS 3 to WiRNS 2. You just happpened to have the first post that was more about not being able to use DNNA in WiRNS 3 and not about Replay Zones...

More as Mark said, WiRNS gives you the ability to edit the auth as you see fit. "Removing" would indicate that it actually did something to take that out automatically, which it doesn't remove anything. It simply allows you to feed a file, it doesn't ship with an authcmds file, it ships with an example file that you can edit as you see fit. At a minimum you have to rename it, so that's not WiRNS doing anything, that's the user doing something...

When I reverted back to 2.1 today I had to change the start up DOS batch command from:

net start WiRNS

to:

net start "Your Service"

in order to get it to work.

Yeah, that was a bug in one of the installers, I had the same problem, although I didn't bother to edit the files because I don't use them. I don't know if there's one that names the service correctly or not...

Are you saying that the RSS feed doesn't work in WiRNS 3? I don't think anyone else has reported that...

The RSS feeds would only work if I extracted them using WGET. Opening them in any of the browsers I have would return an error saying that the server did not respond with valid data.

I don't think anything changed in regards to the RSS feed for WiRNS 3. Did you make sure that you had the latest updates by Updating WiRNS?

What settings do I use with WiRNS 2.1 to pull guide data from DMNA?

And if I do this, should I remove AuthCtrl.dll?

You would clear out the Schedules Direct login information, and you would enter your ZIP code into WiRNS...
