| hmm, and you could probably put custom channel number translation in the autobots transform xml file also. |

| I don't believe this is a problem with the scraper. If you go to the msn tv listings you will see that they aren't showing the information there either. Hopefully, this isn't a tactic to annoy scrapers because if it is it sure as hell is working! |

I don't know how you would fix the fact that MSN doesn't seem to be providing the information...
SchuedulesDirect doesn't cost much per year and is a very reliable way to get listings into WiRNS...

I have no idea what that means, but WiRNS doesn't care where the scraper data comes from. So, if you want one computer to create the scraper data so that another computer's WiRNS can process it, I can't see any problem with that...

I am unable to get WiRNS to even see the scrapper files.. THat's the problem
Another problem is the sample remapProviders.txt file is NOT on my system, don't know what happened to it but it's not there
and yes, I have WiRNS2, (I made sure of that) it is a very recent download and it includes the new line up provider log in option (I'm still using the Replay (DNNA) provider, but that is another matter)
I'm not sure if I"m not making the remap provider file properly of if I need to command software to update.. That might be the problem I can create a batch file, with just an "EXIT" command in it, see if that works (never invoke WiRNS) |

Glenn has already answered your questions in the other thread that you posted, so rather than taking up more space in this thread, you should continue this discussion in the other thread. Glenn has a lot more experience and has posted how to get the sample and how to use the scraper files...

Great!
Hmm it looks like they are only listing 2 channels over the air with this scraper now, I actually get 9 or 10.
Still using mc2xml as my main free guide source, it has all of the available channels (but not subchannels). |

I just realized that the Canadian channels are not getting processed by the Scraper. It looks like that website (http://tv.sympatico.msn.ca ) to guide the information is not available anymore. Here’s a news link dated 4 days ago related to msn.ca and the TV guide: http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5jdL2EsMQ7KGqf1ia-RO96-oFK8hw
I re-create a new setting. I choose 2 channels from Videotron and download the listing correctly at first. However, the next time I go in, I can’t download. See log below.
Why is it downloading from msn.ca the second time?

| Are you downloading 'as canadian'? try not. Due to this splitup it looks like the sympatico.msn.ca isn't available any longer. is there a new domain that has the same info? I can switch it in the code. |

| No, I'm not. The Canadian download does not work either. As for the new domain, I don't know. How does it get it the first time? That seems to work. |

I too am suffering from the MSN/Sympatico change up. From what I can tell the listings are now available from TVGuide.ca. Here's the page where you enter postal/zip code to get appropriate listings. I can't tell after that if they have made changes to the pages/inputs so don't know if it will be a simple redirect in the code, or if the scraper needs to be modified beyond that.

I'm happy to test as needed. |

The last few day the Scrapper software has been unable to download the listings from MSN.
I'm kind of wondering if this is a fire related problem ... Or is there another issue.
Oh.. Just to check.. I stripped the URL down to tv.sympatcio.com and ...
Got 404'ed there too. |

Does anyone know if it is possible to get the source code. I tried following the link in the "source" file in the first post but it didn't lead anywhere.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've been using MSN scraper for the last few years and have recently hit the same problem that others are having -- but I've found a solution that works for me.
As PG said above, the first time the scraper runs, it gets listings correctly but subsequent attempts fail. This is because the first time it runs, it downloads listings from tvintl.msn.com. Afterwards, it always uses tv.sympatico.msn.ca which no longer exists. The solution is to point tv.sympatico.msn.ca to tvintl.msn.com on the computer downloading the listings. tvintl.msn.com points to the IP address, 65.54.195.254, so you'll need to update your hosts file to point to the new location:
1. Open C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts with Notepad.
2. Add the following line at the bottom:
65.54.195.254 tv.sympatico.msn.ca
I've been using this for the last couple of days and so far it works. |

Thanks Scoot! I've been coming here anytime I've had problems. It's fun to actually have a chance to give back.
Aces -- Maybe your computer has cached the real IP for tv.sympatico.msn.ca. Try clearing your DNS cache:
1. Close all web browsers.
2. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt
3. Type in:
Then try using MSN scraper again. |

THANK YOU!!!! (That's a big thank you) worked just fine, Got my listings
Now all I need is an internet connection where the replays are so I can get the entire system working again.. Just now I can tell the replays to record
But..... The replays are not reporting back to WiRNS.. This is due to different channel guides and will be fixed when next I net connect and change the DNS settings and zip code and line up. |

I have noticed another problem that just started happening.
When I auto download listings I get 404 error.
When I manual download listings I get 404 error.
When I use manual and get providers then download listings success.
But then when I reopen and try to manual download, 404 error.
I only can get it to work when I first use get providers then download listings.
Any ideas?

Hey everyone,
Haven't had much time this week except for today to look at my setup and all I have found is if I only pick 1-5 channels so far it downloads anytime I want it to. If on the other hand I pick all the channels that I want to receive a few hundred it will error out after the first time I download. I have compared the settings file and there is nothing different between the two (1. First Download 2. Second download) that I could see.
Thanks
John |

Has anyone else noticed that there isn't any data past 15 Oct 2009?
I went onto the MSN tv listings web site and there isn't any data showing up on the web site after 15 Oct either. So, I don't think it is a problem with the scraper. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed and if anyone knows what's going on.
Thanks |

Small problem... The scrapper has downloaded guid information through Thursday, 10/15 8:30 PM.. Now, It downloaded that monday last week
But ever since, when I re-run the program to download an update.. It downloads through Thursday 10/15 8:30 pm
What's on Friday? (or Sat or Sun or monday Morning)
Thankfully I've got decent internet most of the time where I'm parked so I can always switch back to DNNA, but I'd rather not, epically since DNNA don't do over the air all that well now days.
It would also be nice if Scrapper did the digital sub channels on OTA, currently it only lists analog channels. I hope they update that some day or someone comes up with a download source that provides for channels like 7-2 or 4-2 in Detroit. Changeing the channel numbers so that the Replay properly selects them on the converter, With WiRNS. Is kind of easy.. Can be done with Scrapper as well I believe |

| I am having the same problem pulling anything past this Thursday evening. i noticed it started last week sometime. Has anyone seen what a possible fix may be? I have a Rogers PVR (which I hate) that will tide me over, but RP works so much better (at least when it works properly 90% of the time). Help! |
