|
|
I would have thought this would be in an FAQ or at least easily answered via a search of the forum but I couldn't find the answer. Will WiRNS work on a Linux machine with Mono? If so, what Mono packages are required to make it work? If not, is it still planned? (The only hits I found on my search regarding Mono were quite old)
Thanks...Scott |

Not in its current form, there are several Windows-specific issues that would need to be addressed, database, some unsupported .net...
Right now I think it's planned for WiRNS Version 3.0 or 4.0

I don't know if it has been brought up before, but I have WiRNS and IVSm running in a VM using the free VMWare Player. A very basic Win2000 install uses 96MB Ram and very little CPU. The virtual C: drive uses about 1.25GB.
The pluses are that no matter what changes I make to my system, which are frequent, my WiRNS and IVSm stay alive when I reboot the VM.
The minuses, your shows will be stored inside a virtual HDD as IVSm and WiRNS do not use network mapped drives (at least when I tried it a few months ago), I don't think it is that bad of a minus, as you can easily share this drive in Windows and then use smbmount to mount it to a path in your linux file system.
I setup a 120GB virtual disk for this, this resides in a .vmdk file on your local file system and you can store it anywhere as long as the VMWare config file knows where it is.
I have sevaral blank virtual HDDS in various sizes ranging from 100GB to 700GB. Since they are blank they compressed into a 500K zip file. If this will be useful to you let me know and I'll email it to you.

There are many resources on the web for creating the .vmx configuration file so you don't have to buy the pro version of VMWare.
Download the VMWare player, http://www.vmware.com/download/player/
Create a configuration file.
