As mentioned in previous posts in this thread, your PC needs to be on to receive invitations and send shows if your router is pointed to your IVSM PC instead of your RTV.

When I setup my router's port forwarding for IVSM I left the original RTV entry in place, just disabled.

I did successfully send a show from my local guide, but I had to leave my PC on for several days because the guy receiving the show had another slow transfer in progress and the one from me was stuck waiting.

Once that transfer was done I switched my router port forwarding back to the RTV.

If I don't need to send from the local guide, I can leave the router set to go directly to the RTV.

If someone wants a local guide show, I can swap the port forwarding entries and I'm back in IVSM business.

I still use IVSM to update my Poopli listings to include the local guide shows, and I have used IVSM to initiate a send of an RTV show.

I loose the send progress feature, but at least I can turn off my PC.

Vern

The way I read this setup advise, I need to have a Router that will allow me to forward a public port to a specific port on my private IP's. It's not enough to forward a port (say 29000) to my IVSMagic server's IP address (say 192.16.8.1.48 ). My Router must be smart enough to forward it to a port on the private IP.

Am I reading this correctly, or am I thinking too hard about this?

right now, you are just thinking too hard about it.

Bob was initially going to have support for mapping a WAN port to a different LAN port (for example, WAN port 80 to LAN port 8080), but not enough routers support this. so he took that out.

but pretty much all of them support forwarding any WAN port to the same LAN port. if your router works with IVS now, it will work with IVSm. all you'd have to do, as far as reconfiguring your router, is simply change the IP for your IVS port forward from your ReplayTV's IP to the IP of the PC running IVSm.

does that make sense?

I believe the install info here is current with regard to setting up IVSmagic, IVS port numbers and port forwarding. IVSmagic and the router need to be configured so all your IVS forwarding ports point to IVSmagic (rather than the ReplayTVs).

Yeah, between us we either have half a brain or half a rocket.
