While my unit seem to connect and go through the sequence, it always ends with a Network Error. Did they stop the Channel Guide for dial up?

There is no separate Channel Guide for dial up versus networked. The dial-up connection simply gives you a dial-up connection to the Internet, and then it connects exactly the same as a networked unit. You'll probably have to go through the different tips posted to try to get a net connect to complete successfully. It could be that what changed was the dial-up provider in your area on January 1st...

Unfortunately, I have tried several recommendations on how to get back the Channel Guide to no avail…

With a working phone line, when I press 243 and Zone, I go to #4 (Net Connect), and the messages below appear at the bottom of the screen:
1. Dialing… for 20 seconds
2. Connecting… for 30 seconds
3. Connection Established… for 5 minutes and 30 seconds (if I pick up the line, I can hear the dial up communication tones)
4. Checking service activation… for 2 minutes 40 seconds
5. Setting the clock… 30 seconds
6. Checking for new channels… 1 minute and 35 seconds
7. Checking for new information about Replay Zone 1/18… 1 minute 30 seconds
8. Transferring additional information… 6 minutes 15 seconds
9. Checking for new phone numbers… 2 minutes 55 minutes
10. Transferring additional information… 1 minute 30 seconds
11. Checking for new Hard Disk Recorder software… 3 minutes

After approximately 30 minutes, I always receive this message:

There was a problem transferring information from the ReplayTV Service.
Your Hard Disk recorder will try again later.

Wouldn’t this mean that the phone number is working? Can my hardware be the problem?

Any advice is appreciated!

Are you saying that it's an additional 30 minutes after step 11, or that it takes approximately 30 minutes for the net connect in total?

I don't know if you've checked the topics on AVSForum, but what you're seeing is quite common. There are tips on other phone numbers to try (long distance, if you have long distance included, that you can try), and how to locate the list of primary and alternate phone numbers in your area. In general, some of the posts seem to recommend that if it doesn't look like the net connect is proceeding very quickly, that you should simply hang up and try again until you get a nice quick progress...
