I received an email from DirecTV stating that they are going to swap for free my receivers due to their age (2003 or older). Does anyone know if the current standard receiver (possibly a D12) is compatible with 4K replays IR Blaster or Serial (preferably Serial)?

Thanks

I have a D12-700 hooked up to my 45xx Replay in the basement via S-video and using the Paterson USB TV Translator cable to control the channel changes via serial/USB so no IR blaster needed.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, after going to Paterson's website, I found out that they have discontinued the USB Translator. Looks like I'll need to use IR Blasters until some USB Translators show up on ebay.

Here is the text:

Thank you for being a valued DIRECTV customer. In our ongoing commitment to providing you with the best possible entertainment experience, and as a result of an upcoming broadcasting change, some DIRECTV receivers that are from 2003 and older will become obsolete. Our records indicate the active DIRECTV receivers on your account fit this description. DIRECTV will replace your SD receiver(s) with our newer-generation SD receivers FREE of CHARGE* and with NO NEW SERVICE AGREEMENT.

WHY DO I NEED TO CHANGE MY RECEIVER(S)?
As television technology has changed through the years, DIRECTV has added channels, services and applications to improve the viewing experience. Many of these additions cannot be fully supported in the On Screen guide on older receivers. Therefore, we will be retiring these older receivers from our broadcast system and these receivers will be rendered obsolete. We will replace your older receivers at no cost to you with our current generation receivers prior to the changes.

With your new current generation receiver(s) you will enjoy faster performance, a full 14 day schedule of programming, interactive access to weather and other features, access to our exclusive News and Sports Mix channels and much more.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS FREE REPLACEMENT?
Call 1.800.531.5000 and say "receiver upgrade" at the automated voice prompt. Your call will be routed to a special service group. Please mention "FREE MPG SWAP" to the customer service representative and we will schedule a shipping date for your replacement receiver(s). No need to make an appointment for installation - the receiver(s) will be sent directly to you.

You will receive a newer generation SD receiver(s) to replace your current SD receiver(s) for free*. We look forward to continuing to bring you the world's best TV entertainment experience.

Sincerely,
Ellen Filipiak
Senior Vice President, Customer Service

*Equipment Upgrade Offer: Valid 6/25/12 - 9/30/12. Receiver will be swapped at no charge for like equipment (i.e., standard receiver for standard receiver). Replacement equipment is leased and subject to the lease agreement. Receipt of DIRECTV programming is subject to the terms of the DIRECTV Customer Agreement; a copy is provided at directv.com and in your first bill.

To ensure delivery, add directv@directv.com & directv@cm.directv.com to your address book.

Don't upgrade. I had that happen with Comcast a couple years ago. They wanted to upgrade my equipment and they even sent it to me. The new codes weren't in the Replay database so I never bothered to upgrade and while they kept telling me I had to install my new equipment, the old stuff kept working. I don't see why the old SD boxes wouldn't still work, but I'm not a doctor.

Its all BS i believe to get the customer to WILLINGLY upgrade to thier newer garbage!!!

I have a RCA DRD-420 and it is THE BEST BOX i have ever had..... The response is excellent and NOTHING THEY HAVE WILL BE AS GOOD AS THIS!!!!

They have tried calling my house several times trying to get me to goto channel 341 and call them!

IF THIS WAS AN HONEST UPGRADE,THEY WOULD JUST SEND EVERYONE A NEW BOX!!!!!!! (No there is a fee for renting thier garbage that they dont tell you about @ first WHICH IS WHY THEY WANT PEOPLE TO CONSENT TO IT)

Just an excuse to make more $$$$$ -- I have been with them 13 years and i will gladly leave if they do this..... (I hardily watch any TV anyway, its all crap now)

I DO NOT WANT THIER GARBAGE!!!!!!!

Your getting a message on your RCA bud?? (Like when they swapped access cards (REMEMBER THEY JUST AUTOMATICALLY SENT EVERYONE A NEW CARD))

I have read these new boxs have IN SCREEN ADS on the guide!!!! (No surprise at all) -- I dont want to be forced to a piece of garbage like Time warner cable has now!!!! (THAT NAVIGATOR STUFF IS COMPLETE GARBAGE.. QUITE SLOW AND UGLY)
