i have been doing several trials transferring edited replay shows converted to avi or other types of formats. something i don't really understand is that when running an ssh server on my machine, thru the internet to say the east coast from the west, i can only get transfer speeds of say 200k/sec but if i do the same transfer on my lan, i can get up to 5mb/sec.

does the isp limit the ssh style transfers or do i have something set wrong. would ftp be faster? i can obviously download stuff from websites much faster that that, but even if i go to my neighbors house for the ssh transfer, i only get around the 200k/sec.

But, i I use bittorrent pr similar software, i can get the same file, granted from numerous connections but at speeds of up to about 1.1mb/sec.

i ask because i have a lot of travel coming up and i would like to be able to get more shows while on the road.

and no, a slingbox is not what i want, just want to understand transfer protocols a bit better.

would it be possible to make multiple ssh connections to transfer the files faster? any advice would be greatly appreciated.
