SmartUpdate is a setting in the Wirns config that throttles the download to 300KB if the replay to be updated is recording. The reason I think this might be the issue is that the recording light is on when it hangs. Plus at 10:30 an one hour show was being recorded. It stopped recording at around 10:30 as opposed to 11:00

the entries of interest are

[8/9/2011 10:26:58] Refreshing RecordingGuide for: Replay 3(192.168.20.13)
[8/9/2011 10:27:28] There was an error refreshing the recording guide for Replay 3

I could ping 192.168.20.13

I forced a shutdown the next morning

As to the Channel guide.

If you go to tools/channel guide you can pick which replay to list various channel features from. For example I can pick recording channels for Replay 3.

I get recording channels for replay 1,2 and channel 36. The IP it is getting the info from is for replay 1. In general this feature seems to not work.

cheers

OK, you were confusing me because you spoke about "smartupdate" but then didn't say you were downloading shows and only made refrences to guide refreshes. Your log that you have posted this time is the same, only showing guide refreshes. If you are also downloading shows and you think it's a problem, then turn off smartupdate and set the download rate manually...

My mistake. The setting is called smartdownload not smartupdate. This mistake came from doing several things at once.

Does the smartdownload setting apply to all replay network traffic during recording or just show downloads.

thanks

It's only for controlling download speed. The rest of the network traffic works pretty much like a browser, so there's really no regulation and really nothing to regulate...

I've more or less confirmed the following behavior on my setup and a friends setup. Both setups have 3 replays

If you use tools/channel guide and pick any replay and click jump you get the same result.

Is it suppose to work this way? For that matter what is it showing? or to quote my friend

"not sure what purpose this layout serves. But no - if I change RTV selection and click JUMP it shows the same Replay. I can change the TIME and it will jump to the starting time."

I would expect that if you pick a replay it only shows that one. Or maybe show that one first and the others as reference. At the moment I have no idea what this menu is showing with multiple replays.

thanks

The name for 2 of my replays are showing up in RED (on WIRNS Summary Page for configured replays) while others are black. It does indicate the guides are up to date (in green). I have both rebooted both them and my router. What causes this?
Thanks

Selecting the Replay selects the channel lineup it shows, nothing more. So, if all three of your Replays have the same channel lineup, then you won't see any difference between selecting different Replay in the ChannelGuide. However, if you have different Replays with different channel lineups, like maybe one of them has a digital lineup and another has an analog lineup, then selecting different Replays will show you the different channel lineups...

It DOESN'T indicated that the guide are up to date, it indicates that they have net connected recently. The red indicator indicates that their guides are NOT up to date...

So, you need to look at the WiRNS log and see what's going on with those 2 units. If WiRNS can't communicate with them, then I suggest you try the diagnostic steps in Appendix B, here. And, be sure and read about the DHCP bug in that appendix...

FYI i have had wirns up and working for a couple of weeks and all my replays are set to static addresses. I did not see a way to select repeat IP address for same units on my Linksys router.

Will look at log and see what I can. Also, inspected each remote unit. Each had up to date guide (thru 8/22). Did a connect to replay network at each unit. now all names are in black (as they should be). With guide up to da. not sure why they were red?

I find something interesting. If I "Check for updates" (right click on monitor), then I ALWAYS find updates and the process of updating starts. Even if I check a few minutes later - it's like the updates are never really made?
After this the monitor becomes yellow and then just shuts down (disapears form Windows bar). The log show new versions:
Code:
9/30/2011 3:45:58 AM Downloading: WiRNSMon.exe
9/30/2011 3:45:58 AM New Version of WiRNSMon.exe received

9/30/2011 3:45:58 AM Downloading: WiRNSMon.pdb
9/30/2011 3:45:58 AM New Version of WiRNSMon.pdb received

Another run:
Code:

9/30/2011 3:53:17 AM Checking WiRNSMon.exe

I just reinstalled the WiRNS 3.0. Downloaded from the "Downloads" location the "Nightly Build". It found many updates after that - is the web download of "Nightly Builds" still maintained?

There isn't anything to maintain. That link simply downloads the same WiRNS as is available there, and then performs an update automatically when it's installed. So, there'd be no difference between downloading the WIRNS3 download, installing it, and then performing an update to get to the latest version. That's how we maintain the latest version of WiRNS without having to update the download all the time...

Ah, I was thinking that the "nightly build" was the version with the latest updates. My missunderstanding.

Yeah, I thought so too... Until Glenn explained it to me!
