BTW - I finally did break down once I bought an HDTV and get a Tivo HD with the dual tuner cable card for that TV. No, I don't like it as much as my ReplayTV. There are things about it that just annoy me (like it will only buffer for 30 minutes even though I have a Terbyte drive) and the user interface is still not as clean and well done as ReplayTV, even after a dozen years of upgrades and refinements. You can get 30 second skip now at least, but it remains pretty expensive.

But I have to say, if you are giving up on Replay, I'd buy my Tivo again in a heartbeat vs. renting an HD DVR from the cable company. My friend has the Verizon DVR - wow does it suck. It just freezes up and doesn't record stuff sometimes, and the capacity is all of like 20 hours of HD programming or something. My Tivo has a Terabyte drive which gives me practically unlimited capacity for all practical purposes - I have something like 30 movies on there right now and still have plenty of space.

If you are sad to see a world without ReplayTV in it, be even more sad if the only option out there is the cable-supplied DVR. If Tivo goes down, we are all going to be a lot worse off than we are now. There aren't that many of us that seem to care about the quality of the user interface and so forth, all the things that keep us trying to keep our Replay boxes alive after all these years. We need to vote with our pocketbooks and keep at least one high quality DVR in the market.
