I posted an update which allows configuring Replays in WiRNS for NetConnecting only. This allows you to configure WiRNS for Replays that you only want to have net connecting into WiRNS and not have WiRNS accessing those Replays in any way. This is basically what happens automactically when you configure a pre-4K unit which is dial up only, but now you can configure the same thing for 4K and 5K units...

Just be aware that with 5K units, you lose a lot of the 5K capability when the only access is through NetConnecting. Show scheduling will be more like 4Ks, only through the NetConnect. And, since the NetConnect mechanism doesn't support categories, priorities, nor first run scheduling, you will lose those as well...

This is kind of a rough start at allowing this capability. I was trying to allow show sending and Poopli updating even in this mode. But, not everything came out as I planned for right now...

OK...Maybe I am dense, but posted it where? While I have the current full setup running OK now, I am really JUST looking for schedules - no need for web programming or anything else...Just the TIME Sync and Guide...DUMBer is OK - as long as it is simple!...And not sure I like seeing it show up as a "third" replay when trying to toggle between my units.

Let me know and happy to test it out as much as possible...While pretty "savvy", I can certainly act like a dumb noobie!

"Administration->Update WiRNS" I think should work, although I never used that.
I use "Check for updates" from WiRNsMon in the notification area/system tray.

Didn't think of that, since *most* places when an update is "released", they also update the download/installation package too...

Still "learning" this site/program's etiquette...

Looks like there WAS an update doing the internal update process, and there is a checkbox to "enable" or not WiRNS as a "replay" unit...Not sure if that was what was being referred to, but for me, that's enough for now to make it more "invisible" and have it "just work" in the background...

For WiRNS, "update posted" means run the updater as Space indicated...

The "enable" check box has been there for a pretty long time. The added check box says "NetConnects only"...

Does this option eliminate the counting of shows on the individual ReplayTVs to populate the ReplayTV Guide(s) and ToDo List(s)?

I would be interested in a MINIMUM WiRNS 2.x w/Schedules Direct that *ONLY* feeds the 'edited' Channel Guide' to the ReplayTVs that 'might' run nicely on a P266 laptop with 128MB RAM and Win98SE (and .NET 2.0 - Currently, all of my 'older' equipment is running .NET 1.0 so I'll have to upgrade that.).

Just some quick background on updates...

Executing Administration -> Update WiRNS is the same as running Check for Updates from WiRNSMon.

In both cases, WiRNSmon gets all the new files, stops WiRNS, updates the files, starts WiRNS.

If there's a new WiRNSMon, WiRNS stops WiRNSMon, updates it, starts WiRNSMon.

There are configuration options under Configuration -> Updater. If you enable backups, you can use Administration -> Downgrade WiRNS to back out of an upgrade, if for some reason the new code doesn't work for you.

WiRNSMon also has an option to Refresh All Components, which will re-download and replace all of the WiRNS components. This is seldom necessary.

No, it doesn't remove any views of the RTV from WiRNS, but it only gives you the capability of what MyReplayTV had. Normally you can net connect through WiRNS without configuring the RTV in WiRNS, as people have done for years. However, this gives the capability of net connecting through WiRNS and still configuring the RTV in WiRNS to give you most of the WiRNS support. This is what was added quite a long time ago when I added 2K/3K support...

If you only want to support net connects and nothing else, then I don't think that you have to configure WiRNS for any RTVs and there are some setup requirements to have it serve those RTVs. But, this feature allows you to setup WiRNS to serve RTVs without having it poll them...

For some reason, I can't access wirns.com from home. When I type wirns.com in my browser, I get a page that says:

"Directory has no index file.
Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited."

It doesn't matter which browser I use or which PC. If I use the wirns.com IP address [66.96.147.154], my browser returns a blank page.

WiRNS update checking also fails to connect:

"CHECKING FOR UPDATES
Updater Version: 2.1.3954.39387
.Net Version: v2.0.50727
Last Update Check: 6/18/2011 1:15:31 AM
Checking File Manifest
ERROR checking: files.txt :
The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.
Attemping checking: files.txt one more time.
ERROR checking: files.txt :
The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.
ERROR in doUpdates - ABORTING :
Couldn't check file
UPDATE CHECK COMPLETE"

Any ideas? My ISP is Comcast.

Can you try it from https://proxify.com/ (which worked for me) or a similar web proxy?

It worked! Thanks.

Does this mean Comcast is blocking access to wirns.com?

I'd be surprised, in that there should have been a few people mentioning that by now.

I guess it's possible the wirns.com host is blocking your ip. I'll see if I can find anything out about their process.

The other possibility that comes to mind is antivirus.

FYI, I turned off antivirus and the firewall but still couldn't get to wirns.com from my browser. However, ping and traceroute work fine.

Oops, my bad! I forgot to post a new XactProvider to go with this configuration change! It's posted now...

I posted an update which should give more capability for Netconnect-only units, more specifically, to be able to send shows. You can now click on the shows of Netconnect-only units in the ReplayGuide to get more details about the shows, and to be able to take actions on the shows, like sending them. And, this now allows hiding shows from Poopli...

In addition, this update now allows preserving shows on network-connected 4K units through this ManageReplayShow pop-up window...

Also, this update corrects loading guest information for Netconnect-only units...

I posted an update which corrects loading show information with special characters from Netconnect-only units. This update also corrects the IMDB links in the show details pop-up window for items that have special characters...

I posted an update which corrects showing preserved shows as non-guaranteed from Netconnect-only units...

I posted an update which more correctly allows the ability to send shows from Netconnect-only units. Because the unit is netconnect only, WiRNS does not know the size of the show and support files, so it doesn't send the proper file sizes. This update adds to guess at the file sizes based on the show duration and quality so that the receiving unit should get a good estimate of the file sizes. I believe on the receiving RTV that the file sizes are just used for calculating the percent completed, so I think that things should still operate properly. At least now the file sizes should be closer to the actual size such that the receive should show progress more appropriately...

In addition, this update also changes to send the show invitation based on the model number of the sending RTV instead of the model number of the receiving RTV. That is, if you use WiRNS to send a show from a 4K Replay Guide, then it will send a 4K invitation, versus if you send a show from a 5K Replay Guide, then it will send a 5K invitation. This more matches the fact that obviously if you actually sent the show from the RTV itself, it would seend the type invitation for that model RTV. This is a farily subtle change that really doen't change much, since normally you would send a show from the same model RTV to another. But, when you are sending a show to WiRNS itself, then it will now send the correct show invitation to WiRNS based on the sender's model number. So, if you are sending a show from a 4K to a 5K-configured WiRNS, it will now properly send a 4K invitation and WiRNS will receive it as a 4K show...
