I have a dead showstopper 2020. Can the eprom be removed to be placed in another showstopper?

Why would you want to bother? All the important information is on the hard drive and all 2Ks are lifetime subscribed...

In answer to your question, I can't imagine why it wouldn't be possbile, but what would the point be?

because my unit is dead and I thought I could activate another unit with my subscription by transfering the eprom

2K's don't really have activations in that way. They are all lifetime activated and don't have individual unit subscriptions. If you want to transfer all the information from a dead 2K, simply transfer the hard drive...

No, the identifying information is in the EPROM, but since 2Ks don't have subscriptions then it doesn't really matter. The information about your recordings is on the hard drive, and that's all that really matters. If you don't have anything important on the hard drive, then it's not important. But, while moving the EPROM to a different 2K would move your serial number, it wouldn't serve any purpose since the 2Ks aren't subscribed in that way...

So all 2K's are "activated"?

Yes, all 4Ks and lower all have lifetime subscriptions. Sonic Blue didn't start selling subscriptions until the 4500 units. However ALL units have to perform regular net connects in order to stay "active". So, even though they have lifetime subscriptions, they won't keep "working" unless they regularly net connect...

So, take any 2K and net connect and it will be a fully subscribed, activated unit...
