Ok I'll tackle some of this.
I don't convert Meta to 4dtv, but do use the remapper to map 4DTV to the Direct TV lineup.
The DVRBB IS great. Doesn't need a PC just to drive the 4DTV. Works on feedback from the positioning sensors, not a timer like the TapeItAll. Currently supported.
It supports (using IR) Meta, and Dish. Serial Control supports DirecTV. (That's what I use).

Thanks... so I'll go order me one.
Can you give me an example of how to use the remapper?
Thanks

Basically, I've had a remapper file for a while now. It's been a bit flakey lately but that is some minor Wirns anomaly that prevented a save.
Anyway. When you import a lineup, Wirns will populate the Config, Edit Remapper function. From there you substitute the channel numbers that match what is needed for the DVRBB.
That interface box takes (in my case) the Serial Channel Changes (DirecTV) lineup, and controls the 4dtv. That allows me to have Just In Time recordings etc. without any timers on the 4DTV. Slick.

I'm not sure where my problem is so I'll post in this thread and hopefully, I'll be in the right place.
I've tried to read/follow/and learn my way through this. It's been kinda fun so far.
Here is where I am at the moment:
WiRNS 2.0 is configured to execute the MSN_scraper. The data seems to load okay and the db is populated with listings for my 3 providers. The drop-down menu offers me the choice of all 3 providers when I edit my Replays in the Admin/Replay menu. I can select and save the DirectTV provider for the Replay which uses DirectTV. However, when I try to edit the Replay which uses my Canadian digital cable provider, the drop-down menu allows me to select the provider but when I select "Update", it always goes back to none. I can't figure it out.
Here is the WiRNS log:

Scratch that, I spoke too soon... when I went to look at the channel guide, it said to run the setup, so I went to run the setup, and tried to change the zip... and it wigged out on me, giving me an 844c0002 error code.

I now know what my problem is. Unfortunately, my Canadian provider is called with accented characters :
Vidéotron Ltée(E)0004268X
Lava's scraper has no trouble with the characters and all data loads into the xml files. When WiRNS calls this provider, it even gets recognized and displayed with its accented characters as a drop-down choice. However, somewhere in WiRNS it breaks and will not accept it into the lineup.
I had a hunch about this and changed the name of the provider to "Videotron" and it got accepted by WiRNS. However, show data with accented characters is garbled.
I did PM Glenn on this. Hopefully there is a workaround for this. If not, I'm back in the old days of manual updates.
Oddly, accented characters weren't an issue in earlier versions of WiRNS. I know that there are users of WiRNS throughout Canada and abroad who are affected by this (including a couple of military buddies).
Thanks to all who helped me through this. Lava, Ryan and Glenn, you're great. |

For me to get around the 844c0002 error, I wait until I get the error, then I restart WiRNS and as soon as WiRNS gos green I hit select again on the remote and all is good. Works every time. _________________ ReplayTv 5040 and WiRNS |

|

Hi,
I've been using the scraper for a couple months for my Canadian cable listings. Some of the channel info is wrong and I'm not sure why.
Most channel info is correct once it gets into WiRNS and my RTV guide, but a few are wrong. When I look at the listings online on MSN's guide, the listings are correct - but once the scraper grabs 'em and they are imported into WiRNS, some are wrong.
I haven't found any other posts dealing with this problem. If I've missed one, please point me to it. If it hasn't been covered before, any help would be appreciated.
My postal code is: T8N5E9
Provider: Shaw Cablesystems analog
Two channels that I know show wrong data in WiRNS, but is correct at tv.msn.com:
34 (W network)
40 (History Channel)
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Regards,
Jim |

Take a look at the 'download as Canadian' box on the setup page that appears when you start the scraper program in windows. Chances are it's checked.
If you deselect it & save the changes there's a pretty good chance it will fix your problem the next time the guide is updated.
I know it doesn't make sense to do this since you are a Canadian, but I had similar issues with incorrect listings when the box was checked. |

Yes, MSN hasn't updated their 'canadian' marked listings in a long time and the channel lists are quite out of date.
The tooltip text in the program does say to use the 'download as canadian' only if it is necessary. |

Yep, and since I live in Canada it seemed necessary! I wasn't aware Canadian listings were available without that being checked.

| Allright, I'll make a note in the tooltip that specifically says Canadians don't have to use it on the next update. So far, the service has been relatively stable. (So who knows when that will be) |

I need to know two things
First: The above mentioned sample file... Don't have one
Second, Is there any way I can configure WiRNS so I can download the files (2 of them) using THIS computer. and run WiRNS on another computer?
At this time there is no internet where the replays live.. I can get 'em to a Wi-Fi hot spot every 2 weeks but I need to update the guides more often than that. |

| Quote: | | Is there any way I can configure WiRNS so I can download the files (2 of them) using THIS computer. and run WiRNS on another computer? | Yes, WiRNS just uses available XML files, so you can create them on one machine and copy them to another. In step 3 of the instructions in the above-referenced post, create a batch file that doesn't do anything (WiRNS needs to successfully execute something). Put it into the same folder where you copied the scraper-created xml file(s). Follow the rest of the instructions as normal. _________________ G

I figured out what needed to be done last night and got it working, Not exactly hidden in the instructions is a comment that got it.. The comment was "You could choose to edit your batch file this one time
to not actually execute the scraper, and WiRNS will just reprocess the XML
files created earlier. Your choice."
Well, I did that, I created a batch file "gotlist.bat" it contains but one command "Exit" and when I did a guide update.. it worked.
So "Getlist" has a series of scrapper commands
Gotlist... has Exit |

My question is this:
Is there any Provider, And I'm going to change it to FREE or FEE based
That provides a true listing of OTA digital channels
I can deal with the 04-2 issues easily enough (Re-map channels works great)
but I need to knwo what is on 4-2
Some cities I can get the listing for 4-1 but never 4-2 with the providers I'm using now. |

Thans.. Now how do I grab 'em?
I am trying the obvious. visiting the URL)
Ah, I see. $20/year.. I may have to break down and cough up money.. (Would prefer free but hey can't have everythign)
I'm using Zap-2-It and PDFing the listings just now and doing everything "Manual" This actually works well,, Since I can not often see the internet with both the computer and the replays. |

That's because we have to pay (dearly ) for the listings. We do offer 7 days free to see if it works for you.. even $5 for 2 months if you're still not sure and $20 is too much of a commitment.
You need to use an approved application to use SD.. check out our web page for a list of them. All are free and non-commercial ( a requirement of our contract with Tribune/Zap2it). If you're looking to print a custom guide, there are a few choices. If you're looking to use a Replay, WiRNS is supported.

I think I'll try a 2-month sub in the near future
When I get back to Michigan I can use one of the free services
But funds come up in about 2 weeks, will see if I can get a sub then
I finally found a place where I can get the replays to update well.. (Where I"m at right now) often that's a serious pain in the operating system since this house is "mobile" and does not have a stable internet connection. |

Been using MC2XML for a long time here instead of the scraper. It's free also and works very well. Good OTA listings.
Very text-based setup though. |

mc2xml violates Microsoft's Media Center data download terms of service, so it's questionable if it's illegal, immoral, or fattening.
(I don't want to start a debate on it, just raising the issue for folks to decide)
