Hello,

A couple of months ago I posted a suggestion on this forum for WiRNS to generate RSS feeds (http://www.planetreplay.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13580&sid=da6ef64c7a9dfa0f1997095516d843ff).

I have released an application that generates RSS feeds based on the ReplayTV guide files that WiRNS creates. Using these RSS feeds I can see which shows have been recently recorded in Google Reader, IE7 or even the latest Windows Sidebar "Feed Headline" Gadget.

Here's a sample screenshot, viewing the details of a recorded show in one of my ReplayTVs in Windows Vista:

http://www.ehuna.org/wirns-rss/pics/15-rss-feed-gadget-detail.jpg

To download and install WiRNS-RSS, and for more information, see:

http://www.ehuna.org/wirns-rss/WiRNS-Manual.htm

I've been in contact with Ryan to attempt to integrate this functionality directly in WiRNS, but in the meantime the external command line utility does the job.

That's really cool. I don't think I want to go through the work of publishing the feeds separately. It would be awesome to have Wirns do that. My new nokia 770 has an RSS reader built into it and it updates automatically whenever I establish a Wifi (or bluetooth cell-modem) connection.

Making this a sticky until we put it in WiRNS.

This is now a new feature.

Temporary links are on the index page to put in your RSS Reader.

The links will be made "pretty" and put in an appropriate place later on.

Just updated and got the following error message:

See the end of this message for details on invoking

Also, I find no links on the index page for this.

To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

Aha... The RSS plugin is optional, so it won't update via the updater unless it's already there.

I've edited the updater manifest file to make it a required plugin for now.

I see it working on port 80, but not on my secondary web port (8000).

Ok.. A few enhancements/fixes that are now available via the Updater.

RSS AutoDiscovery when on WiRNS Index page.
Temporary links on index page removed.
RSS image used as a link where feeds are available.
RSS.NET plugin loads also on secondary web port.
Gzip responses when the RSS reader supports it.

Should be 'nuff for now.

Plugins were correct. Restarted Wirns a couple of times and still nothing quite ran and no rss feeds. No more errors though. Decided to reboot the computer, winrs hung on startup and then after second reboot, when wirns started up the rss feeds were there.

Now I guess I need to figure out how to get the rss feeds to display the recently recorded. It does the to do, so I guess I just need to feed them in reverse and sort by date or something right?

Just noticed that if there are no shows on a replay, WiRNS is reporting an error in the debug log. Other than that, it's working great.

Ok, I have posted a fix that I hope will eliminate the 'file not found' problem.

Thanks Ryan, everything works! Nice to have the ToDo and IVSTracker RSS feeds as well!

In Google Reader you can choose to "show all" or "show only new". In your RSS reader it might be a bit different.

I typically mark all items as read after I'm done reading them. This way, the next day when I look at the RSS feed I only see the shows that have been recorded in the last 24 hours (or since the last time I looked at the feed).

I found out I didn't really need to sort - a couple of dozen shows from the last few days are easily readable without sorting.

I think the file not found errors stopped, but I'm getting other weird stuff in the debug log. I cannot copy and paste it because I think eol or eof characters chop out most of the error on pasting. I will try to send two debug logs to you.

Marginally off topic but has anyone found a way to get the all replays rss feed to work on their my yahoo page? Yahoo tells me no feed exists, but on google reader and the internal ie7 reader I can access the content.

Just wondering if someone has a trick to get it to show on their my yahoo page.

I am using the external wirns ip (wan + port) to subscribe to google reader. Should I be using something else?

Using my external IP address, WiRNS doesn't even receive an RSS request from Yahoo.

Using my DynDNS url, it works perfectly.

Seems like Yahoo is not happy with IP addresses.

But it takes the url for the poopli feeds okay.

What is a dyndns url? Do I automatically have one or do I need to be running a different server?

Also, using google reader, it shows the feeds as always being new (new at download time I guess), but using the ie reader the feeds are more accurate and show actual recording dates, so using ie I can get actual recently recorded shows.

Yeah, the Poopli feeds use the Poopli url, http://www.poopli.com/4feed.xml, not an ip address, like http://216.154.213.97/4feed.xml (the poopli ip)

If you try http://216.154.213.97/4feed.xml in Yahoo, it doesn't work either, even though FireFox recognizes it.

By DynDNS I was referring to http://www.dyndns.com/. It is one of several free services that allow you to "alias a dynamic IP address to a static hostname".

Wow, that is a cool service, guess I have to set up my home even though my ip hasn't changed in over a year. But it would be easier for me to remember when traveling.

Thanks Glenn!

Started a new dyndns account and tried to set it up, but yahoo still is not recognizing the replay guide feed.
This is the address I am using, does it look correct? My web server is on port 3500 and yes I can use my dns address to remotely access.

Not sure what "mydyns.ip" means, but the correct format is something like "<yourhostname>.dyndns.org", for example. It doesn't involve your IP address at all (which is unknown). And, basically, you use your chosen host name in front of one of many dynamic domain names...

I know that, that is just a made up one since I didn't want to publish it here. That part works correctly when I access it from other browsers but doesn't work while using yahoo, although glenn said he could get his to work. Just wondering if there is another feed or if I had something incorrect.
