Restart Computer and it goes back to 1

Had to uninstall and revert back to version 0.9.8.4 beta.
All seems good now, have sent 4 shows in the past 3 hours. 1 finished, one going strong, 2 in queue. schedueler/status logs clear!

I was ok, until i applied the update.
These are shows that have been in my local guide forever, with no duplicates.
The problem arises only on shows i send it to someone.
2 cases it did it at 2-7% of the transfer.
DvrDude has been up to 90% twice on a 3270MB send.
Right now he is back up to 37% and still moving unibrow

I have seven shows that are listed with duplicate ID's every time the scheduler runs. I'm running the latest version updated this morning.

Edit: I forgot to mention all of the shows are in local storage on the virtual replay. Also, they only show up in the scheduler log.

This happens when you are running multiple instances of DVA and a single instance of IVSm while using network shares. There was a thread on this a while back.

Remember, IVSm will now try to correct duplicate show IDs, but if IVSm can't write to the directory, it can't fix the ID. If this is the case you would get this warning over and over and over again.

Also, DVA might be interfering with IVSm fixing the dup IDs too. Please shut down all instances of DVA, make sure IVSm has write access to *all* Local Guide directories and try a manual Local Guide refresh. See what happens. You would only have to do this once.

and... If IVSm corrects a dup show ID that is currently sending, you will have to resend that show.

I havent run multiple instances for a few months, but i am running 1 instance of WinDva, not Dva.
All drives are in the same machine running IVSM and DVA/WinDva.
Noticed this in my log this morning. 12/13/2006 10:42 am !

I'm runninig 3 instances of DVArchive, but no network shares are involved. IVSm and all 3 DVA's are on the same PC - using 4 different IP addresses of course.

I've just shut them all down and initiated the guide update - but it is strange that this never happened to me until recently.

All different ip's for me too.
no network shares, or shared storage.
Started right after last update.
Any idea what the "! " is in my log?

Something stinks - the problem only occurs AFTER you send a show. Even though every one of my problem shows has been "unique", IVSm reports a false duplicate condition and tries to fix it. The fix screws up the active transfer.

Anything we can do to help troubleshoot this further?

My six shows were on one mapped network drive and a third instance of DVA. I tried stopping all three DVA's and manually updating. Still no joy. Finally I edited each of the associated xml files by incrementing the ID by 1 and that did it, at least for now. I have been having problems lately with transfers stalling and having to eventually resend the shows.

Same problem here - the transfer stalls, then the show ID has been changed so I end up having to resend the show.

No rhyme or reason on this. I sent 5 shows to one guy - the problem has happened on 1, but not the others. I have another Poopli that I have been sending 24 Day 5 - 9 episodes went through cleanly, then 3 out of the last 4 have choked. At the same time I have sent shows to others that have gone through without a hitch.

WAS Exactly my problem.
I have not had a single problem since uninstalling and reverting back to version 0.9.8.4 beta. Both Sleeper Cells finished with out a hitch.
have sent about 10 other shows since.
Only thing i dont get is the !!! in my status log.

This is the only thing that i could find that was at the same time:
12/13/2006 10:42 am scheduler has detected shows in the download queue. starting downloader.

Hmmm, I'll take another look at the code that supposedly "fixes" the Show IDs. Dunno what to say at this point, the code is pretty rudimentary.

I guess my question is how in the heck do you guys have so many shows in your Local Guide path with the same Show IDs? And what benefit would you get from running multiple (3?) instances of DVA on the same computer?

Found the issue.

I'll see if I can get a fix out sometime tonight.

Well, last part first, Replays don't handle remote guides with >250 shows very well, so it's actually recommended that you run an instance of DVA for every 250 or so shows that you have locally. Otherwise you run a much greater risk of the local Replay rebooting while trying to load that guide, especially if it's also recording and sending a show. I run two instances myself, but it's starting to get a bit crowded in there...

I'm the guy that nded is sending '24' to. As he said, the transfers keep stalling despite my best attempts to fix it: restarting IVSmagic, restarting the scheduler, fiddling with the downloader, rebooting the whole machine, etc.

The transfer just stalled again, and this appeared in my downloader log:

12/14/2006 3:00 pm downloader stopping.
12/14/2006 3:00 pm retry threshold hit. dequeueing 24: 5-11, 5-12 day 5: 5:00pm-6:00pm/day 5: 6:00pm-7:00pm!
12/14/2006 2:59 pm successfully updated sender ip address and port.
12/14/2006 2:54 pm downloader is currently transferring 24: 5-11, 5-12 day 5: 5:00pm-6:00pm/day 5: 6:00pm-7:00pm.
12/14/2006 2:54 pm downloader started.

(FYI, to minimize possible confusion, I'm not receiving these IVS sends with my RTV; I'm using the downloader to transfer them straight to my IVSmagic box's hard drive)

Just to add insult to injury, my broadband connection (and Cable TV) died this morning. They can't get an engineer on site to fix it till Saturday. My neighbor on one side is down too. The neighbor on the other side is up, so I am able to piggyback some wireless action.....

The thing is this, I don't have so many shows with the same Show IDs - IVSmagic is getting a false indication that a duplicate exists. Based upon your next post saying you identified the problem, I'm gonna leave it at that.

Bob,
I collect shows and have over 1600 shows on two computers. I started with everything on one computer with one DVA and it just grew from there. At one time I thought there was a limit, as Max said, so I started multiple DVA's on one computer. As I added shows and drives I found that I could have more than 250 shows per DVA. Then I got networked drives to work and brought in the second machine with another DVA. I now have over 600 shows on one DVA and all is well with my five replays as long as I don't add WiRNS shows to the mix.

It's not necessary or rational to have so many shows, but hobbies don't have to be necessary or rational. I just like to collect shows. Oh, I also have hundreds of shows that I've moved to DVD.

BTW after I fixed the duplicate ID's, they haven't returned.

I wasn't aware of the 250 show limit for the guides, good to know...

The dupe Show ID issue should be fixed in v0.9.8.13.
