GuideParser 1.02 Build 17 has been released for those of you with ReplayTV 5000 series models running the new 5.0 software. Please note this will not work unless your Replay reports it's version as 530500720 on 411+Zones.

hello all,
2nd attempt to post this...please excuse any double posts.
Could someone explain the use/reasons for using Guide parser?
I have a 5000 with latest updates.
I use dvarchive to pull and stream shows.
How does one pull the guide.dat file off of the rptv.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

ReplayPC is used to download guides (and mpgs) (replaypc.sourceforge.net). GuideParser is used to parse the guide file so you can determine what MPEGs (and what their filenames are) so you can download them. Both are command line tools.
Mostly GuideParser is of interest to other programmers and was originally a research project when the LAN research was first being done. (In fact, DVArchive's guide parsing and ability to talk to the Replay largely evolved from ReplayPC and GuideParser).
Except for fixes GuideParser is no longer being developed.

Ok, so before DVarchive, one would have had to use the command line utils to drag data down from Replaytv. One would get the guide data so that you could determine specifics of files/shows. Now, Dvarchive can do this for me.
I was thinking that this was a way to play with the guide system...channels specifially....that people pay the monthly fee for. I am under the impression that there may be ways around paying for the guide service, but no on likes to talk about it.
I am always interested in the details, even if I wouldn't use them.
Thanks,

| So this program retrieves the guide? So can we modify the guide and place it back on the ReplayTV? |

| This program *parses* the guidesnapshot into human readable form. The snapshot cannot be modified or sent back to a Replay. |

I think you'll find that none of the 'third party' authors will discuss circumventing the monthly fee, including myself. DNNA/RTV has been very lenient with our work but if we began attempting to circumvent their revenue stream I'm sure we'd all be shutdown/sued.
However, feeding alternate listing data does have it's uses - there is such a project (WiRNS) that's made a lot of progress but I am not involved with it. WiRNS will not circumvent the service fee. |
