I'm not sure if you're talking about connectors on the mother board or on the ribbon cable. But, on the motherboard, one connector is for the Primary IDE (which supports two drives) and the other is for secondary IDE (which also supports two drives). The typcial reason for two colors is that one is EIDE (primary IDE for EIDE hard drives) and the other is regular IDE (secondary IDE for CD drive, etc.).

On the ribbon cable itself, there really shouldn't be a difference between the two connectors. Which is why the drives have jumpers. I'm not sure why a ribbon cable would have two different color connectors, but it shouldn't be to indicate that one is for a master jumpered device and the other is for a slave jumpered device. It could have something to do with using cable select, but normally they don't use two different colored connectors...

Anyway, I glad you got it all working. That's why my step-by-step sticky instructions recommend simply replacing the CD/DVD drive with the new drive you want to patch. That is to alleviate problems and try to make the whole process simpler...

I hope you have no problems connecting up the Replay Maxtor drive so that you can use extract_rtv5...

I looks like something is wrong with hooking up the 40GB Maxtor drive. Either you don't have the drive select jumpered correctly or something is wrong with the setup. Anyway, there isn't any reason to have the Maxtor and WD drives hooked up at the same time. First you need to hook up just the WD drive and get it imaged. Then you can hook up the Maxtor drive to extract the shows. Follow my step-by-step instruction sticky in the Replay5000/5500 forum, which says to hook up the Replay hard drive instead of the CD/DVD drive so as to make things simple. Be sure and jumper the drives correctly (master or slave) depending on how your CD/DVD drive is installed. What would be best if is you could hook up the Replay hard drive on a ribbon cable where it is the only thing connected. Since you have so many hard drive already in your PC, that might not be possible. Although, if all you need is your Windows boot hard drive to get by, see if you can't get it hooked up with the Replay hard drive being the only thing on a ribbon cable and jumpered as master...

Sorry about the mispost.. Thanks for moving it.

I am using WINXP on an ABIT NF7-S V2.0 Motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP2500+, 1.83GHz, with 512mb of RAM. The disk drives that were connected were:
The Maxtor 40Gb drive from the Replay.
The new WD 250Gb drive.
A 120Gb drive
A 10Gb drive
A 300Gb drive
At least one of the last three drives are WD.

One of the 40Gb drives shows a ReplayTV logo. Since I know that that drive fails to boot, I want to image the WD250Gb drive. I plan on using rtv_extract to see if I can retrieve some recordings and the setup info.

I moved this topic to the software forum since it is about RTVPatch...

In what way is RTVPatch reporting the drive smaller than actual? If you are talking about it reporting the drive less than 137GB when it is greater than 137GB, then you might have a BIOS problem with that PC. I assume you are reading from here...

What size is being reported?

Are you trying to copy over the OS and/or shows from the old drive (not recommended in most cases), or are you using a fresh image to load the OS?

Tell us more about your computer (Make, Model, age, what version of Windows).

I'm trying, for the first time, to create a new drive to replace the one that has crashed. I'm using the single drive upgrade procedure, and find that RTVPatch reports my normal drives smaller than actual. The instructions say 'consult a knowledgable source'.

Any suggestions?

5040 that crashed.
250GB WD to replace it.
Both windows and RTVPatch recognize both the existing (which seems to be hosed) and the new drive.
