Posting the same question three different times probably won't get you any better answer...

The best way I have found to configure the DVArchive player is to type in the path as above and then use the Browse button to actually select the player application. The path you selected assumes that you installed the VLC application in the Applications folder. So, number one, double check that you actually have the VLC application in the Applications folder. If you don't either move the VLC application into the Applications folder, or adjust your path to the folder where you have VLC installed. Once you have an appropriate path configured in DVArchive, click the Browse button and you should see it open a standard file open dialog. Use this to select the VLC application and press OK. This will ensure that you get a correct path to the VLC application with all the correct name case and such. If you press the Browse button and the open dialog doesn't show you the VLC application, then you've made a mistake entering the path to the VLC application...
I am using Snow Leopard and VLC 1.1.3. The videos from DVArchive don't play or stream. I can only open them by opening VLC and then opening the files manually. Any thougts or suggestions? I have also been trying to use PLEX or XBMC to stream videos, but I have had no success. Thanks for your help.

                                      I do not know if this helps or not..... But I've seen the same thing with downloads from web sites and other Windows activities.

So the question comes.. If you download a gig-a-bit file from some www..com does that slow down and fail the same way or not?

If so.. It could be your TCP/IP settings... As I recall I touched up a setting or two many computers ago and it improved things.
I have been experiencing this anomaly off and on for over a year. I decided to seriously investigate it. While there are a few topics posted on DVArchive.org and Planet Replay touching on this issue, this posting is the closest and most relevant to what I am attempting to address. Instead of posting a new topic, I would like to add to yours.

[If it matters, following is a brief description of the section of this network site that uses DVArchive:

* Personal computer
  * Windows Vista (6.0.6001) 64-bit Home Premium
  * Windows Media Player 11.0.6001.7000
  * Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 (1.6.0.10)
* Server
  (Shares mounted on PC using CIFS/SMB.
  Opportunistic locking enabled.)
  * Share A
    * DVArchive 3.2, DVArchive.xml
      (Both in same directory.
      JRE & DVA started on PC with
      ...\javaw -Xmx128m -jar "\\(server)\(share a)\...\DVArchive\DVArchive.jar" --store .\DVArchive.xml)
  * Share B
    * Local_Guide]

I noticed that DVA throws the "Error saving DVArchive store (DVArchive.xml) - store MAY be corrupt" error dialog box only when I interact with the Local_Guide directory in some fashion. Following are examples:

* At command-line, change to Local_Guide as current directory and list content
* Using Explorer, show Local_Guide content
* Using WMP, play a Local_Guide MPEG file

I have been unable to ascertain the specific actions and their order that will duplicate the anomaly. Once initiated, it simply continues. If, for example, it was watching a Local_Guide MPEG file with WMP that caused DVA to begin throwing the error, and I terminate the WMP process, DVA will continue to throw the error.

Following are additional observations:

* DVA throws the error at the same frequency, during and after whatever causes DVA to begin doing so.
* While discomfiting when first noticed, it has since been verified that the displayed error is benign. So far, there is no data loss.
* After DVA begins throwing the error, it becomes much much much more responsive, whereas before, it may literally take well over a minute or two for it to respond to a scrollover or button down event.
* After a long, still indeterminate, period of throwing the error, DVA will cease doing so, even if whatever causes DVA to begin doing so is still running.

Because the error is benign and DVA becomes snappier and more responsive, unlike others, I would actually like to reproduce the error. Determining the root cause is common to all of our efforts. With the above information, if Gerry, you, or anyone else can shed further light on this, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you all.

Best regards,

One would have to wonder where the XML and NDX files went after the restore such that they could come back after undoing!

It's certainly possible that Windows System Restore thinks that those XML and NDX files are system files (certainly possible for XML, however, NDX appears to be some kind of database file extension). I wouldn't think that Windows would be messing with XML files at all! They are certainly all over the place!

WinDVA is an interesting app. If you have it running as a service and you try to quit DVArchive, then WinDVA would think something is wrong and try to restart DVArchive.

From the readme file of WinDVA:
First, WinDVA doesn't stop you from closing DVArchive via its "File | Quit" menu or the Windows "Close" button. However, WinDVA tries to detect when this has happened so that it may automatically restart DVArchive.

So, if you want to stop both WinDVA and DVArchive, you have to do the following:

1) open Task Manager and go to the processes tab.

2) stop the WinDVA process

3) stop the javaw.exe process (that's the DVArchive program).

That's how I do it on mine. Please respond to this topic and let us know how it goes for you.

                                      Well... I won't say it's easier to so things with DVA.. But I will say I have been using DVA for years and thus know how to use it.

With WiRNS.. I'm still in learning mode

So scheduling shows, and other "Remote control" operations, might be easier via DVA's well understood interface.

That is, of course, till I finish learning WiRNS... Though with WiRNS.. I'm not sure that will every happen.. Being as there is rather a lot to learn (This is a good thing)

OF course.. I may end up dumping WiRNS for a while.. This is due to my lifestyle.. I'm going Gpsy in about 4 hours and need to park the house near a Wi-Fi node to update the machines.. I may go with the router as the IP and set it up for the Digital converters.. Then I can just manually schedule things as I go. I know the units will let me record "Channels" not in the program guide.. Provided I get the thing controlling the one receiver again (Just now one receiver is controlled by the Replay, the other is not.. This is my fault and I know how to fix it... But I just got tired that day) I'll be fixing that on the way out the door as it were.

                                      Thought I posted this yesterday, Don't know where it went

But the guide info is stored somewhere on a physical server

I recall one night, I was on line, chatting in between work, it was freezing rain out, and suddenly I was off line,, Just like that.

Seems a driver, going too fast for conditions, had a meeting with a large white box along side the road with the Telco logo on it

Well, when the box went flying...so did my connection.

Floods, Fires, Power loss, Phone/internet line loss,, Several of these have been known to take me offline, and this is on the hardened lines I used at work.

So, if it can happen to those. it can happen to DNNA or Schedules Direct or ____________

Sounds like the servers were down.
DVArchive on the Mac is for accessing your ReplayTV from the Mac, not for watching television or anything like that. If you don't have a ReplayTV for DVArchive to talk to, then it won't allow you to do anything, such as access the TV listings...
Regardless, I did find both. Thank You.

Yep, that's what I said, ReplayPC. There is a Windows version of ReplayPC on that SouceForge link...

alwysquiet wrote:

Some good news in all this. The file plays back from PC ---> ReplayBox (viewable on tv) and it looks just fine!!!! (Means not a problem with the file, right?) but a problem wiwth PC or program running on pc for playback, right? Hmmm... now what to do.

You'd sure have to think so!

alwysquiet wrote:

Do you think wehere the file is playing back TO the box that it would burn to dvd ok?

Seems like a good idea. If you burn it to DVD and it plays fine, then you'll know for sure...
