[quote="hdonzis"][url=http://replayguide.sourceforge.net/rtv5504/index.html]These[/url] instructions are still basically correct. What you'll want to do is to download WiRNS 2.0 and install it, and after get through the configuration phase you'll want to perform an upgrade first thing. The plugins listed on that page are already part of WiRNS 2.0. You should already have the shell commands cofigured that you need (although, I think you only need that one time, so you might not even need those). And, you don't need the Perl scripts unless you don't want to leave WiRNS running 24/7. If don't want to leave WiRNS running 24/7, you can either stick with your Perl scripts or configure WiRNS itself to tell the RTV when to net connect. I think that there's a shell configuration that you need to set to tell the RTV to only use the time that WiRNS tells it when it is Ethernet connected...

Henry[/quote]

There seems to be proxy settings now in the WiRNS 2.0 config screen, do I need to be worried about these settings?

Thanks for the help

I replied on SourceForge as well, but you seemed to have given more details here...

If Disk 1 is a USB drive and Disk 0 is your 4040 hard drive, where is your Windows drive?

Normally, if RTVPatch says that it doesn't recognize the drive as a ReplayTV disk, that means that you allowed Windows Disk Management to manage the drive, which basically destroys it being a ReplayTV disk. However, since you say that it works fine after you put it back in the 4040, I would have to assume that's not the case. So, the question is how did you connect the ReplayTV disk into the PC?

You don't need to use the 40GB drive in any way in order to upgrade the drive. I don't know if Disk 1 is the new drive that you want to use to upgrade to. However, step by step instructions for replacing the ReplayTV hard drive are right here. Of course, you'll want to use the 4K image, Aug2-4000-4.3.zip...

Most of the WiRNS settings are in the Windows registry, so that's why most of them survived. Your Replay configurations, however, were in the database, so those would have to be restored. For example, your one Poopli Replay would need to be reconfigured to update Poopli, or else you'd have to go back to manually running the Poopli updater on your Laptop...

If the reason that you were downloading shows was because you have that configured in WiRNS, then it will start downloading all the shows again tonight at 11:00 PM...

As I showed you and explained to you, the value of the guide data even if you are connecting the Replays to the "mother ship" is so you can check recording schedules and remotely schedule and edit show recordings...

Glad you're happy!
It appears you've isolated the problem to being the fault of the replay. One thing you didn't mention doing was connecting the 'good' replay to network in place of the 'bad' replay. If it works with that connection then it must be a replay problem of some sort. You should also compare the network settings of the two replays to be sure they are correct.

I'm not a 4K owner so I can't offer much more advice but I do offer a sympathetic ear.
WiRNS log during net connect:

[3/2/2010 21:08:13] [DNS] Returning 192.168.0.36 for production.replaytv.net to 192.168.0.37
[3/2/2010 21:08:15] [PLUGIN] LoginAuthLogout Proxying Login
[3/2/2010 21:08:17] [PLUGIN] LoginAuthLogout Processing Servers
[3/2/2010 21:08:18] [DNS] Returning 192.168.0.36 for ntp-production.replaytv.net to 192.168.0.37
[3/2/2010 21:09:20] [PLUGIN] LoginAuthLogout Proxying Logout

If WiRNS was catching the time request by the unit, after the DNS for ntp you should have seen a request for the time. Something like:

[3/2/10 04:21:44] [DNS] Returning 192.168.0.36 for ntp-production.replaytv.net to 192.168.0.37
[3/2/10 04:21:45] [NTP] Proxying request to ntp-production.replaytv.net

Just because you have a listen on port 123 doesn't mean that WiRNS is the one getting it. Have you checked to make sure that WiRNS was able to stop the Windows Time Service?

For example, when WiRNS isn't running, using "netstat -anb" would show something like:

Code:

UDP 192.168.0.36:123 *:* 1232
c:\windows\system32\WS2_32.dll
c:\windows\system32\w32time.dll
ntdll.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernel32.dll
[svchost.exe]

But, when WiRNS is running, it should show WiRNS as the application listening on port 123...

I think it may be possible to also change the WiRNS service properties to have it log on with Admin privileges so that then the process it spawns will also have these permissions. Although, it seems strange that WiRNS can obviously access registry keys to get its own information, but that the spawned scraper cannot. Maybe it is a matter of what particular registry keys it has permission?
So, what about the "List of PCs" configuration? That sounded promising...

Looking for fixed addresses isn't the way to go. As documented, fixed addresses aren't the job of the router. DHCP reservations is what you are looking for...

There are definitely routers out there that don't support DHCP reservations. They don't always call it DHCP reservations, so that's why your thing about "List of PCs" sounded like it might be what you are looking for...

If your router doesn't support DHCP reservations in any way, then there are some other work arounds:

1. If your router supports different firmwares, see if you can find one that supports DHCP reservations...

2. Set your lease time to at least 16 days. The ReplayTV reboots every 7 - 8 days and the lease needs to be twice the reboot time cycle...

3. Turn off the DHCP server and use fixed IP addresses for everything. This will make the ReplayTVs take a little longer to boot because they aways search out a DHCP server even when they are configured for a fixed IP address...

4. Turn off the router's DHCP server and run a software DHCP server on some other 24/7 machine...

5. Buy a different router that supports DHCP reservations...

One would have to wonder where the XML and NDX files went after the restore such that they could come back after undoing!

It's certainly possible that Windows System Restore thinks that those XML and NDX files are system files (certainly possible for XML, however, NDX appears to be some kind of database file extension). I wouldn't think that Windows would be messing with XML files at all! They are certainly all over the place!

Did you try the factory reset, 3-8-2-Zones?

So, are you saying that the 5080 can't even pull down the list of local numbers for you to pick from?

As I said last time, you could either get that cheap motherboard from Mikeyboy that only has the modem working, or you could look through the vent holes or take the cover off both your 5040 and 5080 to see if you see a socketed EEPROM chip, I think near the hard drive ribbon cable connector (there's a picture somewhere on AVSForum if you search for it). If both motherboards have socketed ROMs, then you can simply swap the ROMs and have the 5040 become the lifetime unit. Then you'd only have to decide if you want to swap the hard drives as well to get the larger hard drive (depending which hard drive you think is better operating), and possibly swap the mother boards if you want the serial number on the back of the unit to match...

*UPDATE* I found the pictures of the EEPROM here. I'm not sure how you'd be able to see that through the vent holes which was also indicated on AVSForum...
