I am also having trouble getting new guide info. I have two machines connecting on two different numbers and it gets to the "connection established" message and then just sits there indefinitely and no guide data is downloaded as usual. I've tried a couple of other numbers with the same results. On one occassion only, it got to 38% and finally did a reboot of itself after about 15 min. Any thoughts would be most appreciated? Are they having network problems or is anyone still able to download? If so from what number In which zip code. Thanks much!

by the way. i havent been able to run wirns on my xp since those updates. it took three days just to keep the computer running, it kept shutting down every few hours. i thought my drives went out but they checked fine. they sent more updates and i sent error reports and thats all good now. but wirns still shuts down every night and freezes up a few hours after restarting. i put all my replays on my win7 laptop all ten with no problems. well one problem-the todo list fails as per the reason i used wirns on 2 comps. the todo was able to complete when divided.--d

I have the same setup myself, and was also very surprised that my amp didn't take care of this for me, or that something didn't convert stereo into something that came out all 4 or 5 speakers. My amp even has stereo inputs if I wanted to select it that way. However, I run all of my inputs into the TV and then use the TV output to the amp instead of having to select the device on both the TV (video) and amp (audio). But, I also tried using the digital out of the RTV, and in all cases I think I only got the front speakers doing anything, which was very disappointing to me. It's been a couple of years since I hooked it all up and ran experiments, so I'm not sure I'm recalling it all correctly, other than I distinctly recall being very disappointed in the operation from the RTV. So, now I only listen to the RTV through the TV speakers. I only bother to watch things in surround sound when I feel it is worthwhile so that I don't have to deal with the amp separately for sound than the TV for video. In addition, my cable box is funky that I don't get Dolby surround sound through the HDMI connector, only through the digital out. But, when using the HDMI connection, it disables the digital out, so basically I can't get Dolby surround sound from the cable box in any way (which I think is extremely stupid)! So, the only time I get Dolby surround sound is if I am watching a digital channel through the TV or a digital source, such as a Blu-ray movie...
Last night I managed to get it all working. I ended up using guidedog (what great software) to remove all shows called "News" from the lineup of the news channel and extend the preceding shows to fill the gaps. I think I can safely assume that there will be frequent news blocks on a news channel. This way I was able to remove most of the 5-minute shows that caused the EPG to crash and now it works like charm.

                                      Hi guys,

Today I was thinking of converting some home mpeg's to RTV5.0mpeg for DVArchive, so I can store these movies as RTV files and use IVSm to send them to relatives. So, I search my backup and found a folder I once made (I think about 8 years ago) with rtvcadmin and video2replaytv. Plus all the other rtvtools. So, I installed rtvcadmin, followed the readme and tried to config the settings. I think I did. I posted them below. But nothing seems to work, no error message, nothing. Are these tools still good to use today? I am running W7 32 bit on that machine, but in the rtvadmin properties I set to run it as XP Service Pack 3 compatible software. Can someone tell me if those tools still work and if so, is there a page or blog to explain step by step installation? I am a little lost here...

Thanks guys
Guido

Unforutnately, that's not long enough to prevent the problem, it needs to be more than 7 days, which results in a lease time of 15 or 16 days. With that lease time you'll still have the problem after 3-1/2 days...

Using the assigned DHCP lease should be good until your DHCP server gets reset for whatever reason. At least at that point you can check to see if it changed and then reconfigure the RTV and WiRNS with the new address...

If it becomes a real nuisance I'll put more effort into learning how to run a DHCP server on my Linux desktop. I believe that has the required option to reserve an IP address by MAC address.

I had a similar problem. After searching the internet, I was pointed to a problem some RTV's have when they are connected to the same network as a computer running Winamp. I uninstalled Winamp from my computer and my phone, and my RTV stopped rebooting. Go figure...

How to create a windows 7 installation disk from windows 7 which is already installed? I had windows 7 on my PC preinstalled, when I bought it. Recently, my system crashed and wouldn't boot. On searching for my re-installation disk, i discovered that I had lost it. Though I recovered my system using start up recovery, I was thinking that if any greater damage would occur in near future, I would be totally helpless. So, I want to know if I can create a new installation disk from my installed windows 7.
It's talking about making backup copies of the files that it assumes are on the RTV system. You wouldn't be making backup copies of the 2009 file that isn't on there...

Do you mean up Configuration > WiRNS > [UPDATE]? How often should I be doing that?

That's completely up to you. I guess you could read these forums to see when updates are posted, or you could just try updating every once in awhile. The update I made to make the XactProvider log better was a pretty good while ago: http://planetreplay.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=79680#79680. You also can configure automatic updates in WiRNS...

Sounds like automatic updates is what I should have done from the start.

moonguide wrote:

The reason I added the padding is to address the issue of a game running into overtime -- or even just taking longer than the schedule allows. I think I'll do what I did last Sunday which is to check at 3:30 and see if the first game is still running. If it has finished I'll stop the recording save the recorded segment, and start recording the second game. If I miss some of the beginning of the second game I'm not concerned.

Quote:

Technically, in this case, show-based recordings are more for shows that air from week to week and might change their air time, so the RTV tracks the actual air time instead of the record time. You're really setting up more of a VCR, timed recording, so you could just use a manual recording for both recordings to set them up more exactly how you want.

I should probably do this in case something keeps me from checking at 3:30.

Yeah, I know exactly what you're trying to accomplish and I'm just giving you different ideas on how to accomplish it. Unfortunately, as far as automatic recordings go, if you want to record a show later than the start time, I don't think there's any other way than to schedule a manual recording. That's automatic. If you want to manually record a show late, then that's no problem either...[/quote]

Understood. I've set up a manual recording starting at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon and running till 7:00.

moonguide wrote:

I'm seeing some errors related IsReplayAlive, but this probably should be a separate post. I'll create one with IsReplayAlive in the subject.

I saw those and was going to mention you that you were obviously having a problem with that RTV, but I figured you were already aware of it and were more concerned about remote scheduling issues...
I've got 13 active RTVs, but I only utilize 8 on a daily basis. The other 5 are my spares. Periodically I also connect the spares to the internet so that they are kept updated. I have found that if I leave them connected for any length of time they will show up on the active RTVs. It seems to be a random mix of RTVs, but only 8 entries will ever be displayed from "find other shows" - it might be 7 RTVs plus DVA or 6 RTVs plus DVA and WiRNS PC. I don't recall ever seeing more than 7 RTVs listed, plus DVA for example as the 8th entry. Seeing only 7 RTVs would confirm the 8 RTV limit (for visibility). But that doesn't mean you can't have more units networked.

I'm not sure if this responds correctly to your comments. I guess the test to see if it could display 8 RTVs would be for me to connect another unit (making 9 active), disconnect DVA from being seen (somehow) and then see if it would list 8 RTVs. Usually, if my PC is not on, it will list DVA as "offline".

Interesting! Well, I don't have enough RTVs at my house right now to test your thoughts! I was going to bring up several instances of DVA to test whether it is 7, 8, or 9 max RTVs networked. I'm not sure how DVA would be different than an RTV, the RTVs themselves certainly don't see it any differently. And "find other units" scans for RTV units only, so, again, I don't know how they could be different. It certainly seems very strange to me that your own experiments only allowed 8 minus (#DVAs and WiRNS) units/names. That would be very strange that you could only get 7 RTVs, but could still add a DVA without losing any RTVs. When you added WiRNS, you lost an RTV, so it kind of seems like it couldn't be 7 RTVs and one more something else. However, if you want to see for yourself what happens if you get something like 10 RTVs networked, that would be great!
