So, since you said that those shows were already in the Replay Zone, I looked at the EPG data and saw what else was different about sport shows. Looking at the EPG data format, this page shows that the genre information about sports shows is important to SportsGuard. So, I built a new version of WiRNS which should serve the genre information to the RTV...

So, you need to upgrade WiRNS again, I don't think you should have to update the guide but you can if you want to, but you definitely need to re-net connect your RTV unit to have it get the genre information. I haven't tested this at all, so you'll have to let me know if it does the trick or not...

The Robman wrote:

When I first went wireless, I replaced my regular router with a 802.11g wireless router, and this was still located by the modem and desktop computer in te basement. However, the wireless range wasn't great, so eventually I bought a 802.11n wireless router and rather than simply swap it out with the 802.11g box, I decided the range would probably be better if the unit were located on the main floor, so that's when the daisy-chain idea came into play. Plus, having the router on the main floor meant that I could use it to connect my R5k unit.

I have two computers in the basement that need a net connection, and the cable for the 2nd R5k also comes to the basement. The other R5k is on the main floor where the 2nd router is currently located, and I'd like to keep that router where it is because that's where we mostly use our laptops.

So, how would you re-wire this if it were your house?

In your case, wiring isn't the issue, routing is the issue. You don't need a router on the main floor, you only need an Ethernet switch. You only need one router for the whole house, unless you actually want to have separate independent networks within your house. Having separate routers creates separate networks. For example, if you had a network of 4Ks and a network of 5Ks, having them on separate networks would be beneficial because you don't want them to "see" each other because they can't network with each other, but they show up in each other's Replay Guide even though they can't actually network with each other. Or, maybe you had something like a home network and a work network and you wanted them separated so that a virus on your home network couldn't harm your work network...

So, you have a router already running your house and providing wireless g networking. If you want to add another wireless router to add n networking and get better range, you would simply configure that router in AP mode and plug it in through the switch port instead of the WAN port. When you configure a wireless router in AP mode, it disables the WAN interface and routing, and simply bridges the traffic from the wireless network to the wired network. And, you get the Ethernet switch to boot. So, if all you wanted was to network a bunch of devices together from a single point on the main floor, then you would just get an n-port Ethernet switch to connect them all together. Getting a wireless router gives you an Ethernet switch, a wireless networking device, and a router all in one. Putting a wireless router in AP mode basically disables the router part and basically gives you a wireless Ethernet switch instead. So, then you are getting an Ethernet switch and wireless networking device in one!

Wanting to range extend your wireless network is also quite typical. However, you don't daisy chain wirelss routers to do this, you simply connect multiple wireless networking devices. Depending on the manufacture, some of them actually sell models that are specifically for extending the range. But, basically most modern wireless routers have many different modes they can run in, AP mode, bridge mode, client mode, game mode, etc., which allows you to use them in many different ways and not use the router at all. It is typically much cheaper to purchase a wireless router which has different modes of operation than to purchase a specialized wireless device. For example, if you wanted to put a wireless adapter on one of your 5Ks, then you would have get something called a game adapter -- a wireless device that simply converts from Ethernet to wireless. You can still get those, but they are quite expensive. So, you can simply buy a wireless router that says it supports either client mode or game mode, and just use that instead. So, for $20, you can use a simple wireless router instead of spending almost $100 to get a game adapter...

If you want to read more about extending the range on your wireless router, I would read this article...
Let me add one more comment about confirming that you've updated from LaHo. First, if you see your RTV upgrading some Zones, it is likely that you have successfully connected to LaHo. However, after you've completed the net connect to LaHo, if you go in the Setup menu to either MyReplayTV Registration for 4K/5K users or Register for 2K/3K/SS users, if you have successfully net connected to LaHo you will see it say about registering with LaHo. You need to check this right after you have completed the net connected with LaHo, before switching back to normal...

I'm having trouble following what you are saying. If you are using WiRNS and staying off "the ReplayTV grid", then what are you calling their tech support about? Are you using WiRNS2 or WiRNS3? If you are using WiRNS3, then it would activate the units irregarless (sic) of anything.

ReplayTV isn't really supporting activation by subscriptoin. All units that connect get activated. I'm not sure what they could even do when you call them because they aren't running the subscription system any longer.

I guess what isn't clear is what you are actually have a problem with? After you replace the hard drive and net connect, what does it show in the Setup Menu under System Information in Unit Info for Service? If it says "Activated", then it is activated.

Maybe if you explain more about the problem we can figure out what needs to be done. I've replaced several hard drive and not had any problem, I'm sure lots of others have as well. It could be something about your usage of WiRNS that's causing a problem...
I would check out this thread. At first it sounded to me like you may have a hard drive going bad. But, then I thought maybe you are having reboots due to running Winamp on some wireless device...

The 1 minute shows are usually due to a problem with tuning the channels. If you don't have any channel guide, then that may be part of the problem. I would use 2-4-3-Zones to clear channel guide TWICE and then perform a net connect, and see if that works any better...

I hope that the reboots are due to you running Winamp on some wireless device, otherwise I would suspect the hard drive in the unit...
Then disable custom, it only disables the custom color for the icon, the text remains using the custom color.

I posted:

hdonzis wrote:

Actually, I just checked again, and in the cases where the text is the color of the strike through, the text color changes regardless of the enable check box being checked...

So, I don't know why you're explaining that you see what I said that you'd see...

I don't really see the point in that small nusiance. If you are going to change the settings, then you should check the check box. If you don't check the check box, then don't change the settings. I'm not going to go through the code fixing every place to look for the check mark when all it does is change the color that you selected in the first place. After all, it is doing exactly what it says, namely "Enable Custom ToDo Graphics" is only enabling the graphics, it doesn't say anything about the text...

Space wrote:

Also, to make it a little more confusing, after you make a change (such as unchecking the custom colors option) the page refresh does not show the change in colors properly, if you then reselect Configuration->WiRNS Styles it will then show the real colors it will use in the ToDo.

That's not my experience at all. In my case the automatic page refresh after pressing UPDATE results in the real colors it will use, the same as reselecting the page from the menu. Must be something wrong with your browser...
I don't know, short of it you don't mind erasing the whole unit with a 3-8-6-Zones factory reset, I don't know what else you can do...

Maybe you could try changing ZIP codes to a neighboring ZIP code that has the same lineup and see if that makes any difference...

Sorry, been on travel for a while. just getting back to looking at the device.

I tried doing 3-8-6-zones. But it only giving the replayzones menu. Are you sure its 3-8-6?

Did I really type that? Should have been 3-8-2-Zones...
Schedule Direct also has local broadcast antenna (ATSC) which seems to look like

30-3 WRAYDT
30-4 WRAYDT4
40-1 WUVCDT4

Ok now for the question. Can Wirns make use of the above to generate an IRblaster code to control a PHD-8VX to output the signal to a ReplayTV?

If you can't find any way around having to use the "dot" remote button (like that you can enter 0-1-5-1-OK or 0-1-5-0-1-OK, for example, to tune to 15-1), then the only other solution that has been mentioned is if you have a digit that is not used for any stations that you want to tune, then you can reprogram the RID for that box to send the "dot" for that digit instead. So, if you never wanted to tune to a channel with a 9 anywhere in it, for example, then you would reprogram the RTV RID for 9 to be "dot", and you would configure the remap in WiRNS such that channel 15-1 would be 1591, and then that would cause your tuner to tune to 15-1...

I installed the 8 port amplifier this evening with good results. I have five drops off the the amp to the RTV's/TV's with terminating resistors on the remaining three ports. One of the drops has a splitter for two DTX9950's for a stacked pair of RTV's.

Before the amp was added the DTX9950 signal meter indicated a signal strength of between 41 and 71 (on a 100 point scale) based on the channel being measured, which is the low end to the high end of the "orange range" of the meter (40-70). Now, with the amp in place, the meter is indicating 76 to 90, all solidly in the green.

So is the picture quality any better? No, I didn't expect it to be. Being digital it was perfect before and remains that way but now I have a more robust margin against dropouts during times when the signal might be compromised by weather which is what I wanted to accomplish.

One tip regarding the DTX9950 that may very well apply to other boxes: Be sure to change the "Power Off" menu setting to "Off" or the box will turn itself off after 4 hours of inactivity! I think the default is set to 4 hours to qualify them for the Energy Star sticker. Not a good feature when you're using them with RTV'S! Also, Plug them into UPS units as they won't power on automatically after a power failure.

I love the education we got that RJ11, RJ45 and a F-Connector are all Ethernet (which technically I think is only big yellow cable with vampire taps of ages ago)

Maybe he was referring to Ethernet frames...are those still used or is everything 802 packets? I haven't noticed on my sniffer in a while.
